USB to eSATA converter?

#1

Post by tmhorne »

In reading through various topics, it seems that a USB JBOD enclosure is frowned upon, but eSATA is okay. I haven't found a lot of details on why other than drives powering down for some reason.

Could one use a USB to eSATA converter or is it something systematically wrong with USB?

Something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-USB ... cs&sr=1-10
or this:
https://www.amazon.com/Shentesel-Extern ... ics&sr=1-5

Then get a MediaSonic or other eSATA jbod.

do not work well, because the ultimate problem are the USB dll on BSD.
12.0.0.4 (revision 6766)+OBI on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 12x3TB disk in 3 vdev in RaidZ1 = 32TB Raw size only 22TB usable
