feature flags option

#1

Post by Bobby072 »

I've updated one of my NAS boxes from 10.3 to 12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7542)

So far so good. I noticed a option under pool tools that updates all feature flags.

Does this take a long time to update?
What am I gaining by updating the ZFS features?

No, it should complete in milliseconds.

Incompabilities, more performance, new functions: https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?que ... tion=7&n=1

In XigmaNAS, pools created from the WebGUI in 11.3 or 12.1 are compatible between the releases as long as you don't update ZFS features.

Pool 1: 2x HGST 10TB, mirrored, L2ARC: Samsung 850 Pro; Pool 2: 1x Samsung 860 EVO 1TB, SLOG: Samsung SM883, services: Samba AD, CIFS/SMB, ftp, ctld, rsync, syncthing, zfs snapshots.

Thanks!

Ok so there is no going back once I hit the update zfs features. It seems fine so far but I don't know enough about version 11 to know if there is any reason to think about that now that I'm on 12. Are there any reasons that I should not update it? I can't think of any reason to go back to 10.3.
