Hi All, I'm thinking to install NAS4Free on my HP SmartMedia LX197. It would be mainly used for media streaming to several devices such as PCs, Apple TV and Android TV dongle. Is there a how-to-guide, as it does not have vga port?
The LX197 has an Atom processor and 1GB.
Thanks

Hello, I'm planning to install NAS4Free on my HP MediaSmart Server (LX197). As it does not have any VGA output, my option is to take out its hard disk, plug it into my desktop computer as master and install NAS4Free via CDROM. Once installed, I'll plug the hard disk back into the server.
Before going through that process, could you please advise if this is a good option and any other steps I need to carry out before, during and after installation?

is more easy that you think.

keep Disk in your NAS.

Use a good brand USB Key, do a embeded install on it on any PC (eg: your desktop computer) and boot your NAS from it.

First time IP is fixed to 192.168.1.250 connect to it and change what you need ( eg: change fixed IP do DHCP if needed, etc...).

Don't you need a screen connected to the PC (in my case SmartMedia which does not have a VGA port) to perform an embedded installation?

Also do I need to remove Window Home Server disk partitions before installing Nas4Free?

no, because you do not install embeded on HP smartMedia LX197, you do embeded install in your desktop PC.
