NAS4Free Install from USB problem
Hi,
I am trying to install NAS4FREE on my old compaq d5000 machine and having issues on the install.
First issue I have is my machine won't boot from the CD image I made, I downloaded it and burned it with two different software and just wont boot from it.
I am able to boot from my USB drive though, but when I go thru the steps and Select option #1 "Install 'Embedded' OS on CF/USB Flash Drive or Hard Drive" and I am prevented with selecting the install media, my USB is not listed there and only see CD. I inset the CD I have and try to go thru the setup but I get an error that says "Failed to mount device cd:0'
Any help is much appreciated.

Re: NAS4Free Install from USB problem
if those two methods down work. use the embedded image and write that to a usb stick.

Re: NAS4Free Install from USB problem
Not working either. It doesnt read the Install USB on the install step for some reason.
I plugged in a 2nd USB and I see it to install it there but the mounting part only gives me a option to use CD and not the USB and it fails to mount.

Re: NAS4Free Install from USB problem
Here is some screen captures.
So I select #1 first

Then I dont see the USB here but I have a CD with the ISO as well so I select the first option anyways...

Select my HD

and see error...

Re: NAS4Free Install from USB problem
I need a 32bit one but I have the "NAS4Free-x86-LiveUSB-9.2.0.1.972.img" and that is what I put on the USB drive that I am booting from.

Re: NAS4Free Install from USB problem
Don't use the live USB version
Use the x86 embedded version, transfer it to your USB using physfiskwrite and boot from it
This won't need installation it is ready to go and will be your always boot disk (no waste of a HDD)

Re: NAS4Free Install from USB problem
there are lots of ways to get N4F to boot
usb flash drives are great when they work
a real PITA when they do not.
except when it is just too easy, I avoid USB all together
where only IDE seems to work, flash in PATA or SATA
or an old small Hdd set to spin down after loading the embedded OS and config
