First install freezes during boot

Hello!

I've been trying to install NAS4Free as embedded USB on an older machine I have at home, but I'm having some problems. I've used search and went through a few topics in this subforum, but with no luck.

It doesn't matter if I run it with LiveCD or with USB with an embedded install, it always hangs on the same spot. It starts normally, then during boot it stops in the same spot (see attachement below - hope one of them works). Then it stays like that for a minute or so, followed by two beeps (different notes, if it makes a difference :D ). Then it stays like that for as long as I tolerate it (left it like that for an hour or so).

At first I thought it could be a hardware problem, especially considering I put the machine together out of spare parts we were throwing out at work (they were too slow for the work we're doing, nothing else was wrong), so for test purposes I installed a trial version of Windows 7 on an internal disc. The machine is running Windows fine, so I guess it's not a hardware problem.

I'll write the configuration of the machine later, don't have it here right now. I think it's an AMD 3600+ with 3GB RAM, but I am not sure.

I'm a total noob to NAS4Free and anything similar to it, so I would really appreciate any tips you can give me.

Thank you.

try to disable sound , USB3 (if exist) and all devices that a NAS do not use, revise BIOS config , and how do you have configured SATA in BIOS.

Error seems to be a misconfigured BIOS or something that do not like to BSD, so your exact motherboard name & model, perhaps can help.

OK, so the configuration is:

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Motherboard: DFI CorpLTD, LP NF4 Series
Chipset: Nvidia nForce4 rev. A3
Graphics: GeForce 6600 GT

Do I need to write down anything else?

enter in BIOS an revise how is configured your SATA.

Acording to this post, RAID is NOT desirable, try to configure SATA as AHCI or something similar, or test to configure other options for your SATA , perhaps your boots continue if choose other SATA config in BIOS.

I'm sorry for not replying sooner. I put this problem on hold, have been real busy the last month. I searched the BIOS for something to change, but the only thing I saw that had to do with RAID was already disabled. I have no idea where to start looking, so I've made a few pictures of the BIOS in the hope of one of you knowing what to change.

Any ideas?

first see if the disk and/or usb will boot in other hardware.

if so it is most likely a hardware issue
possibly the half installed OS unable to find the source material

I have had hardware fail to boot in the secondary. try the primary IDE line

for USB the first one polled usually on the back
