cant install new ver using livecd

Post by ExTruckie »

Hello
I have been trying to install the new version of NAS4Free. I downloaded the .iso file from sourgeforce and burned it to a dvd/rw using imageburn

I cannot get it to boot in the current server box, the old version does work well. Am I missing something??

I can install it to a virtual machine fine

I burned the iso on another dvd and tried to install it on the server. I get the same result. I did retry the 9.2.0.1 iso used to install the current os and it worked normally. It seems that the boot loader is not present on the new iso.

Ive had a lot of bad optical drives, some not that old
just trashed an OEM CD-DVD from an i7 box.
possibly the one used to burn the .iso as an older install worked?
most embarrassing was trying to install a live DVD on a CD drive.

I recommend, if available, burning a CD rather than a DVD
Ive found some burning programs a bit questionable on DVDs

I'm not sure if this it. The optical drive used to burn the new version is new and the does detect everything put in it including the disks burnt on it. The VM was created using this drive also.
The other thing is that since I posted last I tried both the 64 bit and the 32 bit versions with the same results. I could swap drives and see if the problem still occurs

Hi Ex Truckie
I am not trying to hijack your post, I just noticed you and I are having the same problem so I thought I might add what I found.
I do not think it is your optical drive. I have downloaded the x86 install iso from sourgeforce9.2.0.1.943. I am not able to do an install.
I have used a different usb stick then the current version I am running 0.7.4919. I also cannot do a fresh install as I do not get the option screen with option 9 which is the install option. So I am guessing that it is not the disk drive.
I am by no means an expert as I have only been playing with this for a couple of days.
Cheers

Ps
1 Step forward 2 steps back. I installed a 3.5" floppy drive and removed my usb stick. reburnt the iso booted of the dvd and was given the option
to install. I inserted the usb and chose to install embedded to usb.Now I have firmware is corrupted message

There can be several problems installing that are not totally intuitive. One is that the new UEFI motherboards, USB CD-Roms and BSD boot CDs can sometimes not play well together. If you can not get to the full console screen, that could be your problem.

If you see the full console screen but not option 9, when did you insert the USB flash drive? You have to boot first, then insert it, or nas4free will think it is a config drive.

   You were right. The dvd drive died. I swapped the drive from my main windows box and it loaded perfectly. I am now running the new version
There was not any issues with the reinstalling the configuration either

Thanks
