Post by Schlyppi »

i use the ex475 with windows home server 2011 - it works , but i want a little more speed and multimedia features. i have download nas4free and i install it on a usb stick. the stick works fine with my notebook but not with the hp. he can´t boot from it. i try an other os ( for example kaspersky rescue usb image) and the server boot normal. if i boot from a live-cd it works. i have try varius usb-sticks and varius settings in the bios. if the server boot he look on the stick but he don´t used ... he boot from an internal memory with a rescue of whs.

how are the mistake ?

you may need to find how change the internal flash memory
how big is it? is it recognized by the live CD boot
or try pre loaded IDE flash memory or small Hdd connected instead of the CD.
a small Hdd can be spun down after loading the OS to RAM [5 min idle]

Hi armandh,

Thank you for reply. The internal memory has 260 Mb. If i boot from the live cd i can see the internal memory. the funny thing on it is , that the server boot with an other OS from the usb stick.

it sees that small flash as a place to store the config when booting the live CD
the smallest I have ever used is 512 Mb. 260 may be too small.
If there is no way to dis able the 260 Mb flash chip
running with the live CD [embedded] OS, and using the flash chip for the config storage is OK
or replace the optical drive with a small pre loaded IDE flash [from the CD on another computer]
