How can I fix my Master Boot Record without losing data

I must have a corrupted Master Boot Record. On bootup I get "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER." This NAS of mine has been running flawlessly for a couple years. I haven't had to touch it. I don't even remember if I saved the configuration or not. I'm wondering if I can do an upgrade with a LIVE USB to restore the MBR without loosing my data which is on a 2 disk raid. Is this even possible?

yes, you can do a fresh install and access your data.

stepts:

1 - do a new fresh embeded install on a new USBkey
2 - boot from it and configure IP, go to disk and use buttons to import Disk and to import software RAID.

Done, your data are back, you only need to finish, configuring SMB and other services by hand.

this time please save your actual config in a safe place, so next time, you can recover your previosly saved config and avoid configuring by hand all services.

for what I hope are obvious reasons...
when saving the config [GUI down load at client browser]
leave it at the client computer, do not store it in the NAS.

Thanks for the replies...
I've done a new embedded install, rebooted, configured IP and imported disks using the web GUI. I see the disks. But when I go to import software raid disks, i get "no new software raid disk found". One of the disks shows a size of 0MB. I'm afraid it's gone.

this must no happens.

Shutdown and boot from your old USB key to restore your NAS, once youar data where accesible, do a data backup.

Alleluia! This was a case of user error and a bad (human) memory. I had removed the USB key a long time ago, forgetting what it was there for. Then after a recent reboot, it couldn't cause it was looking for the USB key which I figured was now missing. By a miracle, I ran across it this morning not even looking for it. Plugged it in and it all booted up!! Man, am I relieved! BTW...prayer works! :)
