Hello,

sorry for my bad english.

I installed Nas4Free 10.1.0.2 (1608) and every time I reboot I lost all configuration. It's like a clean install again.
I'm using an USB instalation.
Anybody has some issue?

sound like you are using the liveusb version.

you need to install it onto a 2nd usb stick.

I also had this while upgrading to the embedded version from the full version.

Are you using an usb stick to install the nas4free or do you install it ON a usb stick?

Live version retains no information.
Embedded version retains no information outside of the web configuration.
Full version retains all information.

I'm confused. I got the same problem since some weeks.

I didn't change anything in the install because it was running fine for round about two years. I use version 9.2.0.1 on an usb stick (Kingston) in a HP N40L.

The only thing I changed was the network. It's now in a LAN without DHCP-Server and a gateway to the Internet. Thats maybe a reason for the problems with the changed IP but not why it's loosing the zfs-pool or the shares and the userconfig. (and I never set an Server to DHCP)

I rebooted the box some times before and nothing happens. So I think maybe the stick is corrupt after two years?

I try to install it again on an old HDD. If this is working it's maybe the stick.

Any other Ideas?

true on its own boot medium but
if there is other FAT formatted storage it will store the configuration there
the configuration is about 25 Kb; a tiny amount of storage

As a new user, I found this thread semi-helpful. It could have used a little more detail. I hope this helps. It would have been what I needed an hour ago!
**Experience is what you get just after you needed it!**

Once it boots to the live USB, you will need to have a second blank 4GB+ USB 2.0 drive handy for the second part.
After live install, At the default prompt:
~Insert the additional blank 4GB+ drive. This will hold the, soon to be installed, embedded file.
(You will see some text populate, but a moment later, the default prompt will return.)
~select opt 9.
~Select opt 1 " Install 'Embedded' OS/MSR on HDD/SSD/CF/USB (preferred)
~Select the 4GB+ USB drive. Most likely the last option, but always look at the drive size to be sure.
~Select the amount of Drive space to be used for the OS/MBR. Default is 3000 MB (ish). I burned a 15GB drive on this install so I used 10240Mb (10GB-ish)
**Once complete, select Exit.**
~shutdown server
~remove the 1st USB containing the "LIVE USB" Install files.
~reboot with only the second USB installed.

Once back at the Main Prompt:
**(OPTIONAL)** - Set your static IP: opt 2; You should set a scope in your router that does not include a desired group of numbers. ie; (Tell the router DHCP to start issuing IPs at 192.168.1.25 end at 192.168.1.254. Set your NAS IP below this number, 192.168.1.2) Another option is to set a "Reservation" in the router for the static IP of your NAS.
This way, the router wont issue to a new IP request the static IP of your NAS, in case it looses network or powers down. IP conflicts are hard for normal folk to understand. All they know is they cant get to LOL Catz, and its your fault... If they have more money than brains you can convince them that their laptop is shot and they need to get a new one. You would be happy to take the shot one off their hands for parts...Anyway,

Access your GUI interface from another "in network" computer by typing in the IP of the NAS in your favorite browser.
Default User: admin Pass: nas4free. You probably already know this though.
Once there, goto:
System>general~ Username~ (change)
***(consider changing "HTTP" to "HTTPS".)*** You will have to use Https:// in front of the NAS IP from this point on.
System>general~ {Select tab}=password. (change).

Reboot / Enjoy!
