Full install need to be mirrored?

Post by chris.shelton »

I have chosen to go for the full installation for a number of reasons, but mainly so I can install Git etc.

I am thinking of installing the OS to a small SSD or a good flash drive, but should I be mirroring this? I don't want my OS disk to fail and then my system to just die.

Thanks

I'm not familiar with jails, have tried to read up on them but not found any good material, do you know any good resources?
The person who I am building it for is not keen on embedded installs and would prefer a full installation.

Also, bear in mind that if you use a Full install, you cannot expect support if something breaks. There is no way that anyone would be able to guess what part(s) of the system you damaged (accidentally or intentionally). You have been warned.

"soft" emulation of hardware functions will NOT work before or for the boot process.
on board or on expansion card bios or firmware will work
the likely best way is MOBO hardware mirror of PATA IDE or SATA flash
but I have used the same single PATA (1) and SATA (2) flash for boot medium on my 3 for some time now
no problem what so ever.
keeping in mind
the more stuff added to N4F the more likely it wont work when needed
the laws of unintended consequence apply.
I prefer a set it and forget it box.

but go for it if you want
just back up the data

my brother in law [expert coder]
did it his way
as I understand, and
for hardware compatibility
striped N4F from the OS and runs it like an app on the latest full BSD
I would have no clue.
