Hello

i have an old freenas system 0.7 rev 4415 running embedded on a CF card. one RAID5 and one extra HDD

sometimes it gets very slow and freezes for about 1 minute while accessing data frommy windows 7 computer. After that minute it runs well for some time. So i was kind of sick of this waiting times. (never found out what it was. )

so i tougt it might cange when updating the system.
> i pysicaly unplugged all HDDs
> i tried to upgrade my backup CF via Live USB with NAS4Free-x64-LiveUSB-11.1.0.4.5019 >>>> but it faild
> i put in a new CF card and made a new nas4free install>>> it worked so i can access the Webgui and config the server....
> I thought i could use the old freenas config file but no it did not work
> for test reasons i put in an spare HDD to see how the ne config file would look like BUT Nas4free 11 does not find the HDD. i can not add any HDD. there is only:
ada0 wich is the CF card i guess
and
aprobe0 ( what i don't know what it is)

How can i find out wher the problem is? not supportet controllers on the mainboard, is that possible even when old freenas finds the HDD?

Thanks so much for any help!!
i would also keep the old freenas but that freezing is annoying.

best
Robert

to solve freezing revise HDD properties , it's possible that one or several disk going to sleep mode, so your NAS need to wait until disk wake up.

It's not possible to upgrade from 0.7 to latest 11, but you can do a fresh install and use button "Clear config & Import Disk" to import your disk, and button "Clear config & import soft RAID disk" to import your RAID 5, once done, you need to configure services by hand.

Hi,
thank you for the info about the upgrade option, maybe more the not possible option. I don't have a lot of different ,services etc running so that would be a good way to go to set it up new and import the disks. Can you say something about the speed and reliability when running version 11 on an old hardware. or would you recommend sticking to freenas 0.7 ?

I have a board with an amd dual core 4850e and only 1,6GB Ram
The system info out og Nas4free tells me that cpu clock is 2500Mhz
SATA is also first generation i guess.

So would it make sense to move to Nas4free 11 or would you recomend Freenas 0.7 and find the freezing problem?
Thank you so much.
Robert

oh i missed one of the most problematic points:
any idea why the 11 system does not recognise new HDDs

not sure what is best recomend for you, 1.6GB of RAM is really low ( you need to do a full install to do not lose 500MB on embeded boot).

So please test both options and choose the better.

But keep in mind that you can buy on ebay some cheaps mobos, I'll do some test with: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=12529

and HP Proliant G7/8( is a good option too): eg: http://www.ebay.es/itm/HP-ProLiant-Micr ... SwmgJY3Qks
