hello
this is my first request

i am using a router with ddwrt (best solution until now )
today i have seen that exist extension dhcp (nice work )and ddns (another nice work)but i connect to the internet via pppoe and i still need my router to connect to internet so the dhcp and ddns extensions are not good if i need the router.

the request is :
integate as much is possible from ddwrt functions
(the most wanted for me is wan connection of all kinds(for me must have is pppoe)

conclusion :if we can have wan + dhcp + ddns + port forwarding we can get rid of the router

thanks to all and for all

Hello negreasrin,
I like this:
"Read ,read ,test , and after that ask !
Google is your friend!
Ihave a NAS ,thanks to developers 4FREE!"

From what others report it makes sense not to integrate too much in your NAS but to keep the NAS clear of too much additional tasks.
But please report also from your Hardware to allow others to judge this better...

regards
apollo

i agree with apollo. it makes no sense to include routing functionality in nas4free.
a router has much higher security requirements that a nas box.

and what is the problem with running a router with ddwrt? those things hardly use any power.

Routing functionality in nas4free will not be added to NAS4Free.
Not only because of higher security requirements but also the need of this feature.
Second not that many users will use a feature like this at all.

If you want only one box running, then you install vmware to virtualize and set up what ever firewall you want.
Install nas4free or some other nas opf your choiche.

The problem i see is that it has some security issuses as others is writing.
It depends on how much you are paying attention to your network.
