SATA write access makes NAS4FREE to crash

Hi,

I am using Nas4Free for 2 years now and I love it.
I am using a very old PC to host NAS4FREE and I even use LiveCD (version 9.2.0.1-943 presently).
My motherboard is ASUS P4S8X which has a FASTTRACK 376 SATA controller for 2 SATA-150 drives.
Both hard drives are sain and worked 100% on another system.
I mount both in SAMBA and the first one works perfectly.
My big problem is whenever I try to access in writing the second drive.....then Nas4Free crashes immediately.....
It did that for the past 2 years, and now I would like to have support for this bug.
Well, if you tell me that it it not supported at all, I would understand...

Thanks.

thats an ancient board.

it could be an irq conflict as the pci bus only has 4 irqs for all slots.
maybe the freebsd driver does not like that.

try putting the sata controller in a different slot.

ups didnt see that is was onboard.
and its an sis chipset board. this is up there as one of the worst chipsets ever.
what options do you have in the bios?

if it isnt working with freebsd i think your best bet would be to try a linux nas and see if that works.
like openmediavault, unraid or any other linux distro that you like.

but to be honest, that system is so old that any atom system is gonna run circles around it and will use FAR less power.
i would check ebay if you can find a cheap used atom board and just replace it.
