Too many disks?

Hello all, I'm on the next step of building my SAN and when I'm adding disks, I've noticed that there are TOO MANY! I only have 11 Disks in my chassis, and the disk manager shows 19. This is super confusing because I'm trying to label the disks as to what slot they correspond with. Any way to get it to see the correct amount? I have a LSI 9107 SAS controller.

I would click the button "clear config & import " as that usually is accurate.

No dice. That just knocked some of the disks to an "unknown or unformatted" file system, including an SSD which I know for a fact is valid and is there. I look under /dev/ and I see all these disks. Not sure how the hell I have 19 or so when I have 7 SAS disks and 4 SATA disks.

you didnt post the dmesg output.

could it be that your chassis has a build in port expander and you connected both cable to the backplane?

your controller (which is a LSI SAS2308 and not a LSI 9107) only has 8 ports. so to connect 11 drives there has to be some port expander in the game.

sorry,

I bought the LSI 9207-i and replaced the other LSI RAID controller with that. I did plug in both SAS cables into the controller. Perhaps that's the issue. It's a 24 slot chassis.

Any more thoughts from anyone? Going to go try to mess with the HBA tomorrow at the datacenter.

so I should unplug 1 of them? Weird that the old RAID controller in there had both plugged in.

So I shut the SAN down and unplugged one of the cables, booted it up and then it didn't show enough drives. So I shut back down and switched it and all was well in the world.
