Hello everyone,
I just wanted to know if leaving my HDDs spinning 24/7 can do any damage. I have tried spinning down my HDDs quite a few times but only one seem to work properly and the other one seem to work only at times. First, let me know if it's okey to leave it on. And if it isn't, then i will provide more information such as my HDD make model, settings i used, etc. Thanks a lot!

If the drives are truly spinning no big deal, just extra power consumption. Perhaps more heat too.

Many will use wdidle to adjust the drive firmware settings to preent premature wear on the drives.

actually spinning down the discs is worse for the drives than leaving them running.
but good cooling is a must.

Hey b0ssman thank you for your answer but like can you justify your reasoning? Normally, one would think spinning down the hdd would save it from wearing out early and stuff so how could letting it run would be better?

the only real scientific thing about it was the google study.
they dont spin down the drives and state that disk temperature has no significant impact on its lifespan.
