Brand new drive I put in failed its very first SMART test and nas4free keeps sending me the errors but I do not see the problem. Can someone with more experience look at my log and see if I have a problem?

Code: Select all

Device: /dev/ada0, Read SMART Self-Test Log Failed

WDC WD30EFRX-68EUZN0, S/N:WD-WMC********, WWN:5-0014ee-003d0a621, FW:80.00A80, 3.00 TB

For details see host's SYSLOG.

You can also use the smartctl utility for further investigation.

Hello,

I do not see any errors...
Pretty new HDD with 131 hours on tour, 31°C temperature is optimal...
Well power cycle count can be optimized if you try to shut down the HDD every 30 minutes or so as long as you do not run services accessing the disk every hour or so...
But for me, it looks all good.

Ciao @+

to understand the smart values the wikipedia article is a good start.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T.

basically any value above 0 is bad and i would not use that drive anymore for
Reallocated_Sector_Ct
Current_Pending_Sector
Offline_Uncorrectable

this value above 0 means bad cable.
UDMA_CRC_Error_Count

the rest go is starting to get drive specific.
