12x SATA HD + USB Boot don't work on ASROCK 980

Hi

A got an ASROCK 980DE3/U3S3 Motherboard with
6x SATA2 onboard
2x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s connectors by ASMedia ASM1061 onboard
and 2x PCIe 2xSATA Conntroller

At the end there are 12x SATA

My bootdevice is a USB-Stick with NAS4Free and it is the only boot device on BIOS

With 11x HD and the USB-Boot it works fine, but if I add the 12. HD, the motherboard doesn't boot from the USB-Stick, it couldn't find a Boot device.

Do someone know this issue? Could it be solved?

My backout plan ist to install NAS4free on a HD, because I will add a M1015 for additional 8x HD.

regards

gecko

On some of those motherboards, I have found that adding a drive totally hoses up the boot order. Go back into the bios and disable booting from all the hard drives, and enable booting from the USB again.

i vaguely remeber that there was a limit for the boot disks via the bios int 13 call. but dont nail me on that.

you could try getting a m1015 and while you cross flash not flash the bios of the controller, the controller will still work but you wont be able to boot of it. this way the bios will not know about the drives and it might work for you.

try disabling the int13h support in the additional controllers.

Thanks for the Infos.
I tried to disable all other devices in BIOS -> can't boot from USB.
I didn't try to disable Int13h, was to late :-)

Now I installed an 2,5" IDE HD and that works.

I still try this evening Int13h and will than post my result.
