Space inconsistency

Post by BBQ_69 »

Hi

On my brothers nas I'm getting odd space showing up, it was previously freenas/zfs v13, it was showing the correct amount of free space of about 10gb. I've since upgraded it to the latest nas4free and now its showing the following space;

Code: Select all

 nas4free: ~# zpool list
NAME SIZE ALLOC FREE EXPANDSZ FRAG CAP DEDUP HEALTH ALTROOT
tank 2.94T 2.85T 94.3G - 33% 96% 1.00x ONLINE -

 nas4free: ~# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
tank 2.1T 2.1T 204M 100% /mnt/tank
I dont know where its getting the 94.3GB from, let alone 204MB free. It was initially showing 0 free in df so I deleted a folder with about 50GB in it and it made no difference, I rebooted and now it shows 204MB, I'm a bit miffed as to where to go from here. I upgraded the pool from v13 to the latest on the off chance it would help but alas..

Any ideas?

So zfs says the same free space as df

Code: Select all

 nas4free: ~# zfs list
NAME USED AVAIL REFER MOUNTPOINT
tank 2.13T 204M 2.13T /mnt/tank
But that still doesn't expalin the lack of space after deleting a whole bunch of data.

I tried it with an older version of nas4free and it sitll shows the same figures. Very odd.

did you enable the recycle bin? maybe the files are still there after deletion.
Anyway, you should never fill up the pool to this extent, as strange things may happen.

Good call, there was a pesky network recycle bin. I'm soo used to not having such a thing over the network it didnt even occur to me!

The size discrepency between FREE and AVAIL has thrown me off, I didn't think it would be that high but I've just checked my own zfs and it's 517G FREE / 1.1T available.

I told my brother to keep more free space but timemachine was enabled without a limit and chewed it up.

Thanks for your help!
