ZFS Dataset Deletion

Post by RayCJ »

Hi.

I have a ZFS 2-drive mirror setup. On the pool, I have 8 NFS datasets that are shared with NFS. There is (was) also a dataset that was shared with CIFS. The CIFS share was no longer needed so, all contents were manually removed then, the CIFS service was stopped followed by deleting the definition of the unneeded share in the CIFS->Shares menu then, restarting the CIFS service. Following this, the actual dataset was deleted from the Pool menu.

Indeed, the windows machine can no longer see the deleted share. This is what I wanted.

When I view the Pool->Information, the deleted dataset still shows up. (See below. The dataset was called "WinShare").

Does anyone know how I make the unneeded share go away?

It was time to do a scrub so that is in progress now and it will take several hours to complete. Maybe that will make it go away... I have not restarted the machine but it's OK if necessary.

Thanks for any thoughts on how to make it go away.

Ray

Oh, I issued all commands thru the Web GUI and no problems were reported while deleting things. The log files appear to be normal and show normal entries concerning the operations I performed.

One last comment...

Under Pools->Configuration, you can view the "Detected" or "Configured" information. The system still detects the deleted share but, it does not show-up in the "Configured" view.

BTW: The problem solved itself. I tried to delete the dataset this morning and it worked fine. There are no traces of it. I suspect I tried to delete it too soon after shutting down the services were stopped. Everything is OK now.
