Pool "Unknown" Disk "UNAVAIL"

Post by JediRob »

Hi all. I have been running nas4free successfully for a few years. I have a zpool of one vdev with four drives and was looking to add some more storage in the box. The first time I have done this. So, I moved a little too quickly and foolishly didn't take my time in researching the correct steps initially I think. I plugged in two new drives and rebooted. I saw the two new drives ready to format, but I wasn't quite ready to build another vdev as I still had two more drives to add. I saved my config, powered down, unhooked the new drives and powered back up.

My zpool status is now unknown.

Code: Select all

nas4free:~# zpool status
no pools available
nas4free:~# zpool import
   pool: hdnas
     id: 456169149197390250
  state: UNAVAIL
status: One or more devices are missing from the system.
action: The pool cannot be imported. Attach the missing
	devices and try again.
   see: http://illumos.org/msg/ZFS-8000-3C
 config:

	hdnas UNAVAIL insufficient replicas
	  raidz1-0 UNAVAIL insufficient replicas
	    3850725243269305497 UNAVAIL cannot open
	    ada1 ONLINE
	    ada0 ONLINE
	    8191559269871099461 UNAVAIL cannot open
The disks appear fine though...

Image

Now of course two of my disks may have crapped out, but I feel like something is just out whack, like labeled wrong or something or maybe in the wrong order. I've been digging around as much as I can and saw a few other topics on other boards talking about maybe swapping sata cables or something, but I wanted to get some more specific help.

I unfortunately don't have an older config. I have some data backed up but not all, so am willing to do the work to try to rescue.

Help is appreciated.

cannot import 'hdnas': pool may be in use from other system
use '-f' to import anyway
nas4free:~#
What do you think? Go for it? I've been afraid to use -f.

If you have backups of your data then go for the -f option.

If you don' t have backups that should be fixed ASAP.

-f didn't do it.

I've got most of my data backed up, or I can replace easy enough, it's movies mostly, it's just a hassle. AND I just am curious as to what went wrong. I don't want to do it again. The two drives seem fine, no messages like degraded or fail or anything, so I feel like the data is still there, just a little out of sync.

I tried a couple little things. I did clear config and import and it looks like this now...

I would consider putting the two blank drives back in, exactly as before, and see if it suddenly works again.
