Moving NAS4FREE to new case with SATA-SAS Hot-Swap
I have 4x4TB HGST NAS drives that are currently in a Lenovo TS 140 case attached via direct SATA cables and my question is moving everything into a rack mountable case with Hot-swap drive backs connected via 4xSATA-to-1xSAS backplane cable to 4 drives bays going to be problematic? Will NAS4FREE lose my ZFS mirrored V-device array configuration? Or will it auto-recognize? Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Re: Moving NAS4FREE to new case with SATA-SAS Hot-Swap
I would look at this document.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19253-01/819 ... index.html
the way I see it from a terminal the command "zpool export -f tank" will export the pool.
once all the hardware is moved to the new server you should be able to import the pool either from the command line or from the GUI.
zpool import from the command line will list available pools for import or you could use the GUI Disks|ZFS|Configuration|Detected
don't forget to sync the GUI for any changes. Disks|ZFS|Configuration|Synchronize as well as Disks|Management|HDD Management "clear config & import disks"
it works for me, I hope you have no issues, you have backups right?
like everything else there is probably other ways to do it, this is just the way I understand it.

Re: Moving NAS4FREE to new case with SATA-SAS Hot-Swap
After reading all that it sounds like that is only if I want to do everything while it is running. zpool export -f tank doesn't sound like it does anything different than a proper shutdown?

Re: Moving NAS4FREE to new case with SATA-SAS Hot-Swap
I could be wrong but the way I see it, as I described you will not need to worry about sata port locations or any other type of obstacles that may get in the way.
I am sure other process "may" work as well.
please post the process that works for you so others may benefit from it.
good luck on your migration!
take care.

Thanks for your reply. This form seems pretty dead, makes it hard to troubleshoot.

Always backup first!
Since your moving the drives all you need is to move them. If moving the OS disk as well it will be darn near 0lug and play.

Worked like a champ minus some issues I had with the Lenovo board's priority headers and power plugs. Thanks!
