Question on System/Advanced/loader.conf ZFS options

Hello. I'm running a 4GB RAM system with a ZFS mirror pool. I have read that the "zfskerntune" extension is no longer needed with the latest release builds and that tuning of the ZFS parameters can be chosen at this post's subject location in the webgui.

Are the options I see in this page just general recommendations or were they chosen for the amount of RAM FreeBSD sees on my system?

I have enabled the 3 options with what appears to be 3.5GB RAM seen by the OS, and I see a max memory use of around 70% both copying ISO and text files to both compressed and non compressed partitions and even doing both simultaneously.

I suppose I am fine, but would there be situations when I could possibly run myself out of RAM and crash the box?

Thanks for reading!

personally I would use the default options unless you know exactly why you want to change them.
ZFS will automatically tune to the correct values. prefetch for example as well as arc.
you want ZFS to use all the RAM in most cases, and I think the best thing you could do is upgrade your RAM to >4G if you can. the more RAM the better!
take care
