I have been using XigmaNas (NAS4Free) for about 5 years now and find it a great OS and just want to thank the developers. One of my initial servers included 5-3TB WD red drives. It was a great system and always worked perfectly. Now, I have decided to upgrade the server with 5-8TB WD White drives (WDS-WD80EMAZ)...WDC HGST Ultrastar He10. I have a SAS2008 controller and am configuring a Raid-Z3 array. I have done a lot of research on setting this system up and am curious as to how long it will take to initialize (format ) the drives? I started the install about 48 hours ago and it is still initializing...any suggestions or insights would be much appreciated (is this a normal setup time considering the 40TB array?).
Thanks in advance!
Rich

initializing the vdevs of a ZFS pool usually takes seconds.

Thanks, It is up and running...the new drives run a bit hotter than the old WD Reds, so I am putting in an additional fan.
