Hi!

I can confirm this, cause I simply tried it with a ZFS-R1 (4x HDD). And boy ZFS didn't liked it!!!
Had a quite hard time to undo this setting. The Main-reason is in my opinion the raid-function i used. Maybe it works, if every HDD is a foreign Pool/vdev. But then ZFS makes not really sense anymore...

Have a nice day!

I have been spinning down drives in a 6 drive Z2 array and also a 7 drive Z1 for years without issues. I use a 120 minute timeout.

i am also spinning down my discs.

if the spinup time is bigger than the timeout of zfs waiting for the disk, then i could see how that would be bad.

anyone know what that timeout is with zfs?

From memory, there are no I/O timeouts within ZFS itself. ZFS will hang indefinitely.

Just as with TLER, spun down disks don't cause an issue that I am aware of.
