Two disks acting wierd, removed, but showing smart status

I added a spare to my zpool and am doing an online resilver, replace da15 da9. All of a sudden da15 shows up as removed and my pool is degraded. SMART Info shows the drive as online and passed. What gives? Controller issue? How can I troubleshoot?

continue to function, possibly in a degraded state.

I'm seeing some weird things in the System log:

Sep 22 11:07:42 nas4free kernel: (da15:mpt0:0:27:0): READ CAPACITY(10). CDB: 25 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
Sep 22 11:07:42 nas4free kernel: (da15:mpt0:0:27:0): CAM status: SCSI Status Error
Sep 22 11:07:42 nas4free kernel: (da15:mpt0:0:27:0): SCSI status: Check Condition
Sep 22 11:07:42 nas4free kernel: (da15:mpt0:0:27:0): SCSI sense: UNIT ATTENTION asc:29,0 (Power on, reset, or bus device reset occurred)
Sep 22 11:07:42 nas4free kernel: (da15:mpt0:0:27:0): Retrying command (per sense data)

Everything is plugged into a SAS expander and then into an LSISAS 1068E card in JBOD. Could this be a cabling issue? When I plugged the new drive in, it put itself at da9 and moved the rest of the drives down the line. Should I do a clear config and import?

Well here is the smart for da9, but that wasn't the one that was saying removed. Anyway, the resilver completed, so I'm out of the woods. Just wondering why da15 said it was removed. It's still online now. I reformatted it. I wonder if I'm having a cabling issue with my sas breakout cables. I googled the power on reset error and got this link.

yes your drives are fine.

dont forget to run wdidle3 on the wd green drive.

it could be cabeling.

how are the drives connected to the sas expander?

I have 5 SAS breakout cables coming off the expander, each are SFF-8087 to 4 sata cables. The expander goes into a supermicro usas-l8i. I guess I should make a sig with all of this.

I'm guessing in order to run wdidle3, I'll have to connect them directly to the onboard sata bus?

VVV That's better.

If you have SATA cable connected to USAS-L8i and no SATA disk on the end, you can have problems and corruptions, please disconnect each SFF-8087 that have no connected Disk.

Or just buy a few more Hard Drives?
