ZFS - health and monitor questions

Post by asaf »

Hello, I'm new here (on the nas4free OS forum and on unix in general)
sorry for my English in advanced.

i just built an personal home NAS server with 5x4TB WD Red HD. (24 GB of RAM, i3-4130)
i configured raidz2 ZFS with one pool. (i can't afford lose data, the double parity is really important for me)

1) Just need ZFS scrub every week? (or every month?)
(Do i need to do another thing?)

2) I read in the wiki that ZFS will not automatically recognize an error of fail hard disk, and just if the ZFS is under little "stress" the pool goes to "degraded" is that true? And If so, the weekly scrub will do the job of recognizing that issue?

3) how can I get email if the ZFS state went to degraded states?
I search in the net , but my knowledge in unix systems is pretty poor, some1 have a good working script or maybe direct me where to look for?

4) What other schedule should I do To make sure that my ZFS pool will stay healthy? (i already did scheduled S.M.A.R.T tests)

Thank you :P
