well the new amd kabini were supposed to support ecc and aes-ni.

but amd has announced them so far back and now is only releasing them in the am1 socket that i have no idea what the current state is.

here is an image where the ecc is mentioned.

The HP Proliant G7 Microservers use ECC RAM and have a £100 cashback deal here in UK (and the rest of Europe too?)

Here in the US I see a few good deals on ebay although they might be overkill and use too much electricity.

Can I just pull out my old ram that is not ECC and replace it with ram that is and be good to go so long as my other hardware is compatible?

Yes, assuming your motherboard supports ECC memory. Most do not.

The whole ECC safety thing was bugging me so I bit the bullet and bought a SuperMicro with ECC Support http://www.ebay.com/itm/Barebone-Superm ... 3785wt_810

My 11 year old son has his eyes on my old NAS Server for minecraft. Maybe I will setup a Minecraft server for him and his friends.

might draw a bit more power than current systems but you cant argue with the price

Hello,

I currently have a ZFS (single-parity) RAIDZ (raidz1) running with non-ECC memory. Is it okay if I simply remove my existing memory and replace with unbuffered ECC memory (my board does not support buffered/registered ECC DIMMs)?

Thx

Which Mainboard are you using ? If there is support from the Mainboard for ECC-Ram a simple RAM-Xchange works, but else you must change Mainboard...

My mainboard is a abit AN52 nforce 520. Specs state that unbuffered EEC RAM is supported.
