NAS4Free automatically cut filename

Post by CorbeilleNews »

Hello,

After several days of weel working, a RAID-Z2 I made 2 weeks ago, started this week-end to cut all filenames I stored on it.

I used the next version (9.2.0.1) and same version of the CD to create the embedded USB Key

This is not the first time I have the problem with differents hardware an versions of NAS4Free, but I want to definitively solve it because I lost a lot of information which were in the filename.

Is there is a way to retrieve the original name of the files and also how to solve this big problem !!!

Thanks :)

So what can I do to prevent this.

I remember all files has'nt more than 31 caracters after the renaming and now they have much more !

I'm afraid to loose datas !

What can I do ?

ZFS do not have 31 caracter limint, only Apple, so please tell us how you copy files ( using ftp, samba, etc, and what is the OS origen), and please more info.

actually is difficult to help you with info provided.

I only see 31 char limitation on MAC :

To copy data I used Finder of MAC OSX 10.6.8 through an AFP service for a part of them, and for another part via an rsync command line in a terminal with the same computer (with the same AFP service)

Thanks

Use SAMBA or NFS instead, and your problem are gone.

and as b0ssman say post an example, and try to determine if the problem is in the AFP part or in the rsync part of the copy.

As I say the problem seem to have disappeared but for example

Before : France 2 - Emission de Television - 04-06-2014 20h00 2h00.m2ts
After : France 2 - Emissi jKb6=c9U.m2ts

I don't remember the caracters I remplaced by jKb6=c9U in the "after" file but all files renamed looked like that
try to determine if the problem is in the AFP part or in the rsync part of the copy.
I don't think it come from rsync because the problem is the same with rsync and with the Finder of Mac OSX : each one use a different destination directory and each destination directory have cut filename in the same format
Use SAMBA or NFS instead, and your problem are gone
Yes but SMB (must use NT1 cause XP) is for Windows and I use MAC OSX (I can't rename files in a result of a research : I must open the file in his directory to rename it ... and each research can take several minute when several seconds are enough in AFP), also NFS is not recognized by Mac OSX 10.6 (only after 10.7)

Thanks

test copying a file via samba and see if you get the same result
Nas4Free 11.1.0.4.4517. Supermicro X10SLL-F, 16gb ECC, i3 4130, IBM M1015 with IT firmware. 4x 3tb WD Red, 4x 2TB Samsung F4, both GEOM AES 256 encrypted.
