Hello. I've been using NAS4Free for a couple of years now and just ran into my first problem I wasn't able to solve with a Google search. I had a disk fail in my ZFS pool. I replaced the disk, it resilvered and there were some errors. I was able to delete some of the files (5) but 2 won't let me delete them. Every time I delete either of the 2 files my system crashes and reboots and when it comes back up it begins resilvering again. Any advice?

Re: Unable to Delete File
Any chance you can create a new file with the same name? Perhaps by overwriting the bad files you will delete them?

Re: Unable to Delete File
there is an article about this
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/storage/why-r ... n-2009/162
when one of your drives died you had no redundancy left.
the resilvering reported errors while rebuilding
this highly suggest that your other drives are failing to.
please post the smart values of your drives.
it seems that your pool had a read error in its file structure. unfortunately there are no file system repair tools for zfs.
you most likely have to recreate your pool from scratch.

Re: Unable to Delete File
Thank you both for your suggestions. I have tried replacing the files with files of the same name, actually with the same files from backup that also caused the server to crash and reboot thus starting the resilver process again.
The strange thing is both of these files are accessible and work. The .mkv file plays in it's entirety with VLC and the .mp3 file plays in iTunes with no issues.
Here is the SMART data for the 3 drives. Sorry I don't know how to paste it any other way:

The strange thing is both of these files are accessible and work. The .mkv file plays in it's entirety with VLC and the .mp3 file plays in iTunes with no issues.
Here is the SMART data for the 3 drives. Sorry I don't know how to paste it any other way:

Re: Unable to Delete File
/dev/ada2 is failing hard.
you have to replace that drive asap
you should also setup smart monitoring and email reporting.

Re: Unable to Delete File
I guess that shouldn't surprise me since all 3 were bought at the same time. I will do that, but now the system doesn't boot. It hangs on "Loading File System" or something like that. I will try replacing that bad drive and see if that helps. Thank you for your help, I appreciate it.

Re: Unable to Delete File
Ok disks replaced. Back up and running, thank goodness for backups
. Thank you for your help. I did setup SMART emails as you suggested so hopefully I'll catch disk fails early enough to save my data next time. Also setup weekly scrub on pool, lesson learned.
Thanks again,
Scott
