by zoon01
The NAS4Free Team is pleased to announce the release of version 10.2.0.2.2268

http://sourceforge.net/projects/nas4fre ... .0.2.2268/

Everyone can upgrade from NAS4Free version 9.3.0.2.1310 or Higher.

README & CHANGELOG

NAS4Free Upgrade from below 9.3.0.2.1310 is NOT possible!!!
=====================================================
Upgrading NAS4Free "Embedded" or "Full" from any version below 9.3.0.2.1310 by webgui or from
LiveCD/USB is problematic, due a new size of boot partition & partition layout.
Please download and save your NAS4Free config to a safe place and backup all files from second
partition if you use boot disk as data disk.
INSTALL FROM SCRATCH IS THE ONLY WAY!
After installation you can restore your config.
Sorry for inconvenience.
** ! Tools to write extracted embedded file are not supported ! **
You must use the liveusb/CD for it's first installation!!!.

Install from scratch notes
======================
** Embedded.img.xz is only for upgrades by WEBGUI, do not extract and write to any media! **

Download NAS4Free livecd or liveusb and boot from it.
The compressed LiveUSB.img.gz needs to be extracted before you can write it to usb media,
you can use it with Win32DiskImager or any other tool.
Press 9 for the install menu and perform an embedded installation.

Upgrade note:
============
You must associate CARP with physical interface explicitly after upgrading to 10.X. to 10.2.
You may need modifying your NFS and AFP share setting.
You may need modifying your ftp setting, no longer SSL is supported (only TLS).
Send Buffer Size/Receive Buffer Size in CIFS/SMB is changed to 128480 since 9.3.0.2.1375.
/var and /var/tmp size has changed.
After the upgrade please do make a new backup of your config System|Backup/Restore.

ZFS User note!
After upgrading, you must re-sync ZFS configuration from Disks|ZFS|Configuration|Synchronize.

Requirements
============
Embedded: 2GB CF/USB/SSD (NAS4free "Embedded" is Recommended Install)
Full: 4GB HDD/SSD (For developers and some advanced users, Not Recommended!)
Swap less: physical memory 2GB or higher needed.
With swap: physical memory 512MB + swap 512MB (swap 1024MB recommended).

*Note: LiveCD is not supported on swap mode except installation and upgrading.

Hello all,

I upgraded succesfully. But are VM supposed to start automatically? Mine does not.
By the way the wiki link to virtualbox is raising error 403. Normal?

Cheers!
Fozzy.

When I upgrade from NAS4Free 10.2.0.2.2235 to NAS4Free 10.2.0.2.2268, is it needed to install all manual installed Packages again?
I'm using a full version.

Hi neptunus, The problem with NAS4Free Full platforms is, their users supposed to have their own support, and are most likely to be ignored by others, as Full platform is oriented for advanced/experienced users primarily, and is a fact actually. ;)

Personally I think, NAS4Free Full platform should be running on redundant ZFS configuration(zmirror) already, but this needs a bit of work help and support imho, as this are clearly advanced features, not a priority regarding primary NAS4Free concepts. :roll:

As a side note, I'm still a new FreeBSD user here, and never tried a Full N4F upgrade myself, though I think upgrading a Full platform(base like install) is problematic mostly, (even embedded upgrades has been problematic at times).

My own method when I run full is an automated script to re-install the latest packages I use, after a clean NAS4Free RootOnZFS Full install, and a manual/cron job to backup personalized scripts and data folders such as opt/SSH/Plex metadata etc. :)

Regards

Are you willing the share you're automated script to re-install the latest packages?

Had to disable storing & mapping DOS attributes in SMB/CIFS, after a 50% speed drop. But after that it was steady at Gbit speeds. No errors thrown besides the usual "mDNS_Register_internal: ERROR!!". Nice release. Thanks.

PS- There is one thing I've noticed during the last few releases. When doing an fsck within the GUI on an unmounted disk volume, the entire web interface freezes. You can't reconnect or log in. It's a bit of a pain. I used to be able to remount the drive and re-enable services within the GUI, but not anymore. I'm not sure what's causing it, but ssh rebooting seems to be the solution for now.

neptunus wrote:Are you willing the share you're automated script to re-install the latest packages?
They are very simple shell scripts actually, the below sample script will install the software,

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
#
echo "Begin software install..."
pkg install -y pkg
pkg install -y bsdhwmon
pkg install -y mc-light
pkg install -y plexmediaserver
echo "Done!"
And this simple backup script I added as a backup command to /usr/local/sbin, so I cd to any directory and type backup from the shell to start the archive creation.

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
# Provide: Simple directory backup

SOURCE=$PWD
TARGET=/mnt/storage/mydata/Backups/Server
BKNAME=`echo $PWD | tr -d '/'`
BKDATE=`date +%Y-%m-%d`
export GZIP=-9

echo "Backup started."
cd $TARGET
tar -zcvf "$BKNAME-$BKDATE".tgz $SOURCE
echo "Backup finished."

I just wanted to upgrade (from 2118 to 2268) via the webinterface, but it didn't come back automatically on the browser window nor could I access the page after a couple of minutes.

The server was still running when I checked down in the basement. I turned it off and on again. It seems to boot, but I don't even hear the disks starting to spin. No access to the webinterface.

I suppose I have to connect a monitor to it (it's currently headless).
I am using a HP ProLiant N40L.

Any suggestions?

OK... well, I would suggest you actually look at your computer before posting on a forum about a problem that could be a hardware failure. Maybe even SSH into the box, if you don't feel like going downstairs. I had a similar experience a month ago, due to flowering capacitors in my power supply. But I had to look at it first to find that out.

Of course I had tried to ssh to the IP address of the server, which failed. It doesn't show up in the network according to my router.
If it is a hardware failure I owe you a beer, but I rather doubt that. The server is just 2 years old. And of course I was in the basement otherwise I could not have re-booted.
I am basically just asking if there is anything else I can test up front before re-installing the USB stick. If the answer is no, that's also fine.

I connected a monitor. Screenshot is attached.
I was a little astonished to see x86 mentioned. The firmware I had uploaded through the WEBGUI was NAS4Free-x64-embedded-10.2.0.2.2268.img.xz.

However, now I re-installed the USB stick with NAS4Free-x64-LiveCD-10.2.0.2.2268.iso in Virtualbox and it's working fine again.

Putting the wrong architecture on the thing will certainly make it unhappy after an update. Glad you figured it out.

No, you got me wrong. I had downloaded the x64 which was offered thru the WEBGUI and tranferred it to the NAS. Maybe the file naming was wrong (wrong content). No mistake from my side!

revise your BIOS boot order, some times changed and try to boot from old installation / test disk.
