nsswitch problem is fixed - thanks!

However, as noted earlier, my PostInit command script (in "Advanced") to start Sickbeard was still ignored, even though it starts OK when I did it via SSH or WebGui Command.
BUT, I noticed that it was the last command in the list, and so I moved the Sickbeard command up earlier, and it started, and the now-final command (SABnzbd) was ignored! So, I added a redundant and harmless command ("cd /") as the final one, and now all earlier commands start fine. So something is causing the last command to be ignored.

Odd, I created a NAS4Free VM to make sure I could reproduce the issue on a 2nd config.

WebServer
Protocol: HTTP
Port: 8000
Run As: www
Document Root: /mnt
Enable Authentication checked
URL: / Realm: Webserver
Enable Directory Listing checked

User
Name: nas
Full Name: NAS User
Password: 3 letters
Shell: nologin (also tried various login shells)
Primary Group: nobody
Additional Groups: none
Home Directory: default
User Portal unchecked, but I've tried it checked as well.

In both the VM and my physical install I can access the URL with clear text authentication from browser under 573 and the /mnt/.websrv_htpasswd has the nas user in the file. Under 608, the .websrv_htpasswd file is empty and no account credentials work.

Both are embedded installs from the 431 Live ISO and upgraded via firmware update to 573, then 608.

email reports has stopped working.
it has stopped working since 9.1.0.1.602
9.1.0.1.608 has fixed a lot of errors in my logs related to NSSWITCH but email reports still does not work.
if I manually send a test email it will work just not on the scheduled days.

Hi,
I've found another new problem since .573(I think), smartd.conf will only be configured for n-1 disks, so there will be no monitoring for the last disk.
i.e. /var/etc/smartd.conf is not correct.

regards

I cant say my problems has to do with latest versions, but .573 worked better.
I find the nas4free more unstable as i loose connectivity to the GUI if i want to change something beside some errors though in the system.log

I don't know if this specifically needs to be here but these things are mentioned in daoyama's initial post.

Since several releases ago my zfskerntune does not come up until I load it from the command line. I have the zfskerntune-install.php running as a PostInit command script. My events are as follows:
  • - Download new release, save N4F config.
    - Install and boot with new release (just did r608)
    - Observe zfskerntune-install.php should run PostInit but does not.
    - Run zfskerntune-install.php at command line in webGUI.
    - Extensions menu item appears, adjust zfskerntune for memory usage (my case 1.5 GB)
    - Reboot and still no Extensions menu even though PostInit command script left in place.
    - Assume zfskerntune is working (although my file transfer rate is abysmal, that's for another thread, sigh!)
This used to work before, did the newer releases change something? Or is there something with zfskerntune or with command scripting I am missing?

I have installed zfskerneltune while on version .573 and after a few upgrades (I am currently at .608) Extensions tab is still there and zfskernetune seems to work...

I'm having issues with my backup NAS with 573 and 608. That is an AMD Opteron on an Nforce4 motherboard that was still running with build 249.

The issue is a lock up during shut down sequence, namely during the USB bus shut down that forces me to reset the NAS. After that the USB key holding the embedded install is no longer bootable.
I tried with a fresh install; it works fine as long as I don't import any of the storage drives.

Is zfskerntune-install.php your final PostInit command? As I noted in an earlier post, the last PostInit command script seems to be ignored. Try adding a harmless command at the end like "cd /" - that solved the problem for me (until it actually gets fixed in a new build release).

Hi,

I'm now with Released 608.
Can I come back to Released 573 without problem.
I work with embedded X64 on USB key.
If yes, can I make this come back with option reload software in webgui or I make a total installation with iso 573 ?
Can I keep my config file from 608 after reloaded Released 573 ?

Thank you for everyone.

I'm sure he means: "Can I use my 608 config with 573?" I'm wondering that to.

Just flash back the server to the 573 version, there is NO need to backup config and after the flash restore that.

The fact it stopped several releases ago is in line with my findings. I will try what you suggest (the NAS is currently being used and my wife wouldn't like any interruptions to her movie or she'll get  ) and post the result. Thanks jamaroney.

I upgraded with no problems from 9.0.0.249. Except one: network speed is now really slow. I've got a realtek NIC (gigabit) and I went from around 50-52MB/sec to 5-6MB/sec.

revise your log, 10 times less banwith, can indicate a faulting disk that need fsck or that your NIC is in 100MBps instead of 1000MBps

very good idea, this is even a major advantage in a normal Windows Computer, not to speak of FreeBSD/NAS4Free

True. But this not the same machine. And what's strange is that in 9.0 works perfect but in 9.1 there are problems. So something's up with Realtek in 9.1. A pity, because it's a very common chipset. But, seeing it's very difficult to solve i'll end up buying an intel NIC.

Been doing some thinking and testing and I found the reason behind my hangs.

To speed up file searches and simple folder navigation, I'm using the remainder of the embedded install USB key as a ZFS second level metadata-only cache. To do this, I manually repartition the USB key and add that partition as ZFS cache device via command line.

An example is like this:

Code: Select all

nas4free:~# zpool status
  pool: datamain
 state: ONLINE
  scan: resilvered 911G in 4h38m with 0 errors on Sat Dec 22 21:03:12 2012
config:

        NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM
        datamain ONLINE 0 0 0
          raidz1-0 ONLINE 0 0 0
            ada3 ONLINE 0 0 0
            ada4 ONLINE 0 0 0
            ada0 ONLINE 0 0 0
            ada1 ONLINE 0 0 0
            ada2 ONLINE 0 0 0
        cache
          da0s2 ONLINE 0 0 0
Without the cache partition, system behaves normaly and reboots/halts complete correctly.
Once I added da0s2 as cache the system hangs like shown in the screenshots during reboots/halts.

Would anyone be able to test on another system if they get the same behavior ?
