Hey!

I have an annoying bug on the Brig page: I got 2 jails duplicated and 1 stopped jail being some kind of a ghost Jail with no info.
Image

jls returns correct values:

Code: Select all

   JID IP Address Hostname Path
     1 192.168.1.75 filebot.local /mnt/Salmon/Jail/filebot
     2 192.168.1.74 flexget.local /mnt/Salmon/Jail/flexget
     3 192.168.1.76 torrentmonitor.local /mnt/Salmon/Jail/torrentmonitor

@pup26 - What is your question? Please use Google translate if English is the issue. When you tried to create a jail out of nothing (no base tarball), TheBrig warned you that you were asking the impossible. TheBrig doesn't automatically fetch the tarballs needed because you have a choice of what version FreeBSD you want to use. Did you download a base tarball? Or did you attempt to create a "custom" jail with no files? The ID is empty because the jail is stopped. Nas4Free will assign a new ID every time a jail is started. Also, if you are using Nas4Free 9.3, there might problems with getting jails to start. This is why Alexey and I are re-writing TheBrig.

@zakroma - It appears you somehow got some bad entries into your config.xml. Please send me a PM with the section of your config.xml under <thebrig> key. If you need help with this, send me a PM.

Hello,

In the webgui, I cannot delete a jail. The nas works during a very long time (more than 6 hours ) in order to delete. I stop it.
I decided to delete as explained here : http://wiki.nas4free.org/doku.php?id=do ... owto:jails

But I don t find the jail_list file.
Where I can find it ?
Thanks

Edit

In fact if I follow the Tuto except the jail_list file, I can delete the jail in the webgui. Sure there is no content but the jail disappears of the webgui.

I'm trying to recreate my jail. Basically copy it into another jail. I archived the jail folder and built a new jail using that archive. It started, and all my files seem to be there, but the usr/local/bin folder is not there. Am I doing something wrong? I was surprised that the "python" command and the "mysql" command did not work and then realized that the entire usr/local/bin folder was not there.

Hello,

sorry that i bother you with my question, but I couldn't find any good answer for this.

how can I setup the lo0 device in my jail?
is there any way to setup this in the web interface?

Lo0 device? Are talking about the internet device itself? Mine is labled differently. You can find the device information in the webgui under interfaces. Shouldn't need to be configured as it should be set by default.

Judging by the colons (':') with nothing following, there seems to be several missing pictures in the first several posts - which makes much of them unclear.

Can the OP fix this?

I installed N4F embedded in a (VirtualBox) VM, to experiment. I installed thebrig, and setup a jail.

The jail couldn't resolve any DNS names, so for instance, I couldn't pkg install. I fixed that issue by copying /etc/resolv.conf from the host to the jail.

Why was that necessary? Is it expected? Is there an option to specify on jail creation to do that?

Thanks.

Hey,

I need some assistance with an issue I'm experiencing. I can't seem to be able to upgrade my jail, it shows a newer version downloaded but it says there are no upgrades needed and I can't install the downloaded version (with the usual fetch error). Has anyone experienced this before? Any words of wisdom would be great!

widely answered on this forum, please add a "2" at the end of the command:

/bin/sh /tmp/thebrig_install.sh /mnt/XXXXXX/jails 2

and please be sure that /mnt/XXXXXX/ exist

XXXXXX must be your mount point and XXXXXX/jails a folder inside your mount point to install jails and "thebrig".

I really think that is well explained here: viewtopic.php?f=79&t=3894

Hi, just picking up on your 2 posts, as I'm not as tech minded as some of the guys on here, I followed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AnUkYh2kzA to actually installed The Brig and stopped at the point of starting an install for OwnCloud, then followed his video for Plex, you should enable SSH and use Putty for the installation, rather than the WebGui.

I actually have tried to install the jail both thru the cmd line here and thru putty. At least this tells me why it is failing. I will look at it again after work.

I did try it too and it stills fails. I don't get the response from the putty window locally as the video shows so I know something is amiss.

The output looks Ok as the tarball has extracted, do you not get at the end, congratulations you have successfully installed The Brig. I have done mine twice only because I decided to change the ZFS volume it was going to be installed into and each time it worked by following that video.

Then I am beginning to think that the problem is the way I have my data volume set up. At work now and won't be able to do anything about this until I get home.

Re: [HOWTO] Install TheBrig - one Jail manager for N4F

Post by Cataligh »

I'm having trouble copying an existing brig jail. I first archive the entire jail folder. Then I create a new slim jail using the archive as the source. This creates a jail that I can start, and it has all of my personal files, but I cannot run any commands and /usr/local/bin is completely missing. I can't even run "pkg install." I try to use it and it says it's not installed, would I like to install it, I choose yes, it says it's already installed, and that repeats every time I try to use the "pkg" command.

What am I doing wrong here? It seems to make a perfect jail, it starts, but it's missing all of my important system files. All the programs I installed are not there, for example, python, mysql, gcc, they are all missing, the entire bin folder is missing. Any advice for copying an existing brig jail?

Sorry buy I think I can now 'see' why it's not working, you need to login as root via putty...this is my output just to mount where I have created the dataset and should be the same for a folder...the output of mine is a direct copy from the Putty window.

login as: root
root@192.168.1.92's password:
Last login: Tue May 12 12:56:55 2015 from 192.168.1.95
Welcome to NAS4Free!
nas4free: ~ # cd /mnt/Volume1/Jail
nas4free: Jail #

Yours is showing mark@nas4free-server....personally if you have named your nas box as nas4free-server I would lose the -server, and you can rename it in the WebGui.

If I open a terminal on my linux box I get geoff@mint-pc ~ $ because I am the one logged in therefore it displays my name, if I open a terminal window and login/change to root I get mint-pc ~ #.....can you see the difference? Therefore the difference between my nas4free login and yours.

[HOWTO] Install TheBrig - one Jail manager for N4F

Post by ExTruckie »

I see! That has to be it! Too bad I can't do anything about this yet. I don't get home for another 7 hours and don't have remote access or port forwarding set up yet. One of the things I want to do after I get ownCloud set up is to be able to access all my pictures on the server remotely. I will post results later.

Geaves!!

Your the man!! :D :D :D That was it. I was not logged in root when trying to install the jail. :D :D :D :D

I hope others see this that are having trouble and it helps someone else too.

Thank you

Great, hopefully you'll get owncloud installed without a hitch, but don't forget to login as root to install ;)
