NAS4Free 10.2.0.2.2118 released (FreeBSD 10.2-RELEASE-P7)

Post by zoon01 »

The nas4free team is pleased to announce the release of 10.2.0.2.2118
This version replaces 10.2.0.2.2115 directly because of some broken menus for that removed from SF.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/nas4fre ... .0.2.2118/

Everyone can upgrade from NAS4Free version 9.3.0.2.1310 or Higher.

README & CHANGELOG

NAS4Free Upgrade from below 9.3.0.2.1310 is NOT possible!!!
=====================================================
Upgrading NAS4Free "Embedded" or "Full" from any version below 9.3.0.2.1310 by webgui or from
LiveCD/USB is problematic, due a new size of boot partition & partition layout.
Please download and save your NAS4Free config to a safe place and backup all files from second
partition if you use boot disk as data disk.
INSTALL FROM SCRATCH IS THE ONLY WAY!
After installation you can restore your config.
Sorry for inconvenience.
** ! Tools to write extracted embedded file are not supported ! **
You must use the liveusb/CD for it's first installation!!!.

Install from scratch notes
======================
** Embedded.img.xz is only for upgrades by WEBGUI, do not extract and write to any media! **

Download NAS4Free livecd or liveusb and boot from it.
The compressed LiveUSB.img.gz needs to be extracted before you can write it to usb media,
you can use it with Win32DiskImager or any other tool.
Press 9 for the install menu and perform an embedded installation.

Upgrade note:
============
You must associate CARP with physical interface explicitly after upgrading to 10.X. to 10.2.
You may need modifying your NFS and AFP share setting.
You may need modifying your ftp setting, no longer SSL is supported (only TLS).
Send Buffer Size/Receive Buffer Size in CIFS/SMB is changed to 128480 since 9.3.0.2.1375.
/var and /var/tmp size has changed.
After the upgrade please do make a new backup of your config System|Backup/Restore.

ZFS User note!
After upgrading, you must re-sync ZFS configuration from Disks|ZFS|Configuration|Synchronize.

Requirements
============
Embedded: 2GB CF/USB/SSD (NAS4free "Embedded" is Recommended Install)
Full: 4GB HDD/SSD (For developers and some advanced users, Not Recommended!)
Swap less: physical memory 2GB or higher needed.
With swap: physical memory 512MB + swap 512MB (swap 1024MB recommended).

*Note: LiveCD is not supported on swap mode except installation and upgrading.

Can you please run 2118 and give me follow stats:

output of "pciconf -lvcb" and "kldstat" and "dmesg | grep -i atapci"

https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?ahci(4)

thanks.

Re: NAS4Free 10.2.0.2.2118 released (FreeBSD 10.2-RELEASE-P7)

Post by tonyd »

Thanks for the update. I have now moved from 10.1 to this release. Everything went smooth except one thing, VirtualBox shared folders.

As background, I was using the VBox Extension. I properly uninstalled it, removed the user/group and changed permissions of all the virtualbox dirs/files to the new 920:920 ids of the "vboxusers" user and group.

After the upgrade everything loaded successfully, and all the VMs started just fine! For some reason however, shared folders isn't working properly (it was working before with the VBox Extension).

I am trying to share a ZFS dset called "public" and the group that controls it and all its files is called "public". So I assumed that making the "vboxusers" user (shouldn't this be vboxuser btw?) also part of the "public" group would give it access to that dset. I did this through a PostInit command:

Code: Select all

pw usermod vboxusers -G public
Ignoring the VM for a minute, I know something is already wrong because I cannot see the files in the "public" directory if I use the phpvirtualbox admin tool:
  1. Select a VM
  2. Go to Settings | CD/DVD Devices | Choose a virtual CD/DVD disk file...
  3. Go to the dset (in my case "public") that I added "vboxusers" to
  4. I can see the first level of directories in public, but I cannot dig down any further. It will not show them!
I know the permissions are correct on all the public directories and files (i.e. all rwx for "public" group) and have been accessing this dset for years with no change. So why can't vboxusers see inside that dset?

UPDATE: I confirmed that "vboxusers" can see the public dset:

Code: Select all

sudo -u vboxusers cat <file in public dset>
So if "vboxusers" has the right operating system permissions, why can't it access directories/files via the admin tool and shared folders?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm still very much at the newbie stage but an upgrade from 2067 seemed to work then a clean install certainly did, bar a couple of minor problems documented in the Install section.

Hi all,

thanks a lot for this great project!

I was having an issue with the Dynamic DNS settings, namely Dynamic DNS with custom setting would not work.
I suspected that choosing 'Custom' does actually not do anything. However, adding --dyndns_system "custom@http_svr_basic_auth" to the 'Auxiliary parameters' made things work.
And this is what I would have expected the 'Custom' Provider should do. I assume it would be good if 'Custom' would do exactly that.

I upgraded from 10x build 1803 to this one and now Samba is crapping out. NFS and iSCSI are fine, as well as all other services. Bouncing Samba via the rc script, killing / restarting, etc. doesn't make a difference. I have to actually reboot the server. The only change I made from the previous build was enabling smb3 after the upgrade. I disabled it again and the problem persists. I'm bumping it to build 2223 now to see if it still happens.

The logs wiped after the upgrade/reboot. If it craps out again I'll definitely look into the logging. So far so good. more.

Sure thing - just set it. It stayed up and running overnight, which is the 1st time in 4 nights. I'll post back here with the logs if it dies again. Thanks!

With the holiday I haven't had time to look at this. It's still crashing on the latest builds though. On 2235 I put in a cron job to bounce Samba at 4am daily. Been up for a few days now. Once I have some time I'll dig in, but right now just no time.
