Wake-on-Lan (WOL) 10.2.0.2 MB: ASRock C2550D4I

Hello, after receiving some good advice on these forums I managed to get my Nas4Free system. I'm running 10.2.0.2 Prester (rev. 2268) on an ASRock C2550D4I motherboard, the CPU is an Intel Atom C2550 @2.40GHz. 8GB of ECC RAM, 8 disks (4 mirror vdevs).

I'm still just playing with the system to learn how it works before putting it into production. Among the features I need, the only thing I haven't managed to get working is Wake-on-LAN. I've enabled it in the BIOS (PCI options: power on), but the WOL option doesn't show in the web GUI.

I've tried sending UDP magic packets to the active LAN interface, but it doesn't work. Where do you think the problem could be?

wol under freebsd is pretty flaky.

your board has ipmi. use ipmipower to turn on your system.

For future reference: I found the ASRock C2550D4I has a remote management system reachable via http even when it's switched off, so it can be monitored (including shutdown/reboot/power on). This requires you to give up one of the two ethernet jacks, but for me it's the optimal solution. By doing so, I don't even have to install ipmi on my windows workhorse computer (which was a little involved, requiring quite a few additional packages).

That "remote management system" IS ipmi... and you don't have to give up one of the two gigabit ethernet jacks, the c2550d4i has a third dedicated ipmi network port for that behaviour!

IPMI has stopped working. The dedicated network port is still pingable (at an address different from the NAS proper, of course), but it doesn't respond to http requests anymore. The NAS is still working fine, no files have been lost. What could that be? Which BIOS settings could I check? Anything more I can do?
I'll be thankful for any help you can provide.

I never had the IPMI not working, but there is a recent update of the IPMI/BMC (V 00.27) and BIOS (V2.3) from March 23rd:

Additionally check the network cables and connections, shutdown the router switches, NAS etc and restart them.

I wrote an an email to the AsRock guy who wrote in that forum you pointed me to. I'm hoping to get the ipmi reset tool, which should solve my problem. THANK YOU crowi and b0ssman!

Hello, Many motherboards out there unlike some Dell/HP's I've tested, loss the WOL Flag during power loss, even many Supermicro MB's do lost this WOL Flag during power loss as well, so this is expected if no UPS is behind(test based on Inte NIC's).

P.S For mass WOL under Windows, you can use Wake On Lan Depicus CLI or WakeOnLan MATCODE CLI, or this Wake On Lan Windows GUI tool if you prefer GUI stuff, under Linux simply use the wakeonlan package.
