Syslog-ng is miles beyond the obsolete dreck that is in Nas4Free still. These days, it is available as a package for FreeBSD and it can do far more than the old stuff in the appliance. For instance, it can send logs remotely via TCP. It can tag the logs properly with hostname and the like - it's simply a much better syslog. It should be the syslog in Nas4Free, in fact.
Many users won't care, but anyone who wants or needs the syslog to be sent remotely to a server do.
