NAS4Free 10.2.0.2.2407 released (FreeBSD 10.2-RELEASE-P13)

Post by zoon01 »

The NAS4Free Team is pleased to announce the release of version 10.2.0.2.2407

http://sourceforge.net/projects/nas4fre ... .0.2.2407/

Everyone can upgrade from NAS4Free version 9.3.0.2.1310 or Higher.

README & CHANGELOG

NAS4Free Upgrade from below 9.3.0.2.1310 is NOT possible!!!
=====================================================
Upgrading NAS4Free "Embedded" or "Full" from any version below 9.3.0.2.1310 by webgui or from
LiveCD/USB is problematic, due a new size of boot partition & partition layout.
Please download and save your NAS4Free config to a safe place and backup all files from second
partition if you use boot disk as data disk.
INSTALL FROM SCRATCH IS THE ONLY WAY!
After installation you can restore your config.
Sorry for inconvenience.
** ! Tools to write extracted embedded file are not supported ! **
You must use the liveusb/CD for it's first installation!!!.

Install from scratch notes
======================
** Embedded.img.xz is only for upgrades by WEBGUI, do not extract and write to any media! **

Download NAS4Free livecd or liveusb and boot from it.
The compressed LiveUSB.img.gz needs to be extracted before you can write it to usb media,
you can use it with Win32DiskImager or any other tool.
Press 9 for the install menu and perform an embedded installation.

Upgrade note:
============
You must associate CARP with physical interface explicitly after upgrading to 10.X. to 10.2.
You may need modifying your NFS and AFP share setting.
You may need modifying your ftp setting, no longer SSL is supported (only TLS).
Send Buffer Size/Receive Buffer Size in CIFS/SMB is changed to 128480 since 9.3.0.2.1375.
/var and /var/tmp size has changed.
After the upgrade please do make a new backup of your config System|Backup/Restore.

ZFS User note!
After upgrading, you must re-sync ZFS configuration from Disks|ZFS|Configuration|Synchronize.

Requirements
============
Embedded: 2GB CF/USB/SSD (NAS4free "Embedded" is Recommended Install)
Full: 4GB HDD/SSD (For developers and some advanced users, Not Recommended!)
Swap less: physical memory 2GB or higher needed.
With swap: physical memory 512MB + swap 512MB (swap 1024MB recommended).

*Note: LiveCD is not supported on swap mode except installation and upgrading.

Looks great; clean and modern. No issues for me, but I run a pretty simple setup of CIFS and MiniDLNA on a ZFS mirror. Wish I could see my CPU temp, but that's my hardware, not N4F. Rock-solid 8.3C! :lol: Thanks for a job well done!

It seems they only fixed security issues for this release of samba.
Lets 'wait and see it's next version.

I'm having the same issue as neptunus, and it represents a significant regression for my customers - they aren't able to recover previous versions of their files, but have to open a ticket with me for that; the corresponding Bugzilla thread for Samba seems abandoned. Any chance one of you NAS4Free developers can [bump] the Samba team?

I really like this new version.
I hope some update are now made to the website (I sent a feedback to the site admin using the link in the homepage)

Like @provels I have issues with the temperature readings (always been like that: I see something like +0.2C)
and still have to figure out if I have to use powerd or the bios cool&quite auto settings, I fear they're conflicting

Code: Select all

Version	10.2.0.2 - Prester (revision 2407)
Platform	x64-embedded on AMD A4-4000 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics
System	ASRock FM2A75M-DGS (bios AMI version: P2.50)
I must invest some time on configuring the NFS service and shares (never been able to fire it up and connect my linux notebook)
UPS by APC is recognized wonderfully

so far so good
Thanks devs & admins
AMD A4-4000 on ASRock FM2A75M-DGS mobo + 16GB RAM + 3x 2TB Seagate Barracuda Green in ZFS raidz + 1x Samsung Spinpoint M8 500GB (UFS)
Nas4Free 10.2.0.2 x64 embedded - CIFS ; NFS ; miniDLNA ; bittorrent;
UPS: APC BE700G ; Player: mede8er MED600X3D , ChromeCast

Checking the system log after the latest upgrade I noticed that powerd was failing to start on an AMD T40 system. From the command line I got:
# ./powerd start
Starting powerd.
powerd: no cpufreq(4) support -- aborting: No such file or directory
./powerd: WARNING: failed to start powerd
From memory disabling of acpi_throttle was enabled relatively recently in Nas4Free, so disabling this in loader.conf:

Code: Select all

hint.acpi_throttle.0.disabled="1"
enabled powerd to start since dev.cpu.0.freq_levels is now reported:
dev.cpu.0.freq_levels: 1000/-1 875/-1 750/-1 625/-1 500/-1 375/-1 250/-1 125/-1
and the clock dropped to 125MHz with no load, with the CPU temp dropping by 1 degree as well. I know there's a pile of voodoo around FreeBSD's use of ACPI which... well, I don't want to spend the next several hours scouring the web, but wanted to post this in case anyone else has seen this issue. With the early 10.x kernels the recommendation was to disable acpi_throttle, however with more recent ones it seems that this disables frequency scaling, which means powerd won't start.

Edit: This is something to do with my unionFS overlay. I've disabled that and now AD/Samba seems to be working.

Funny thing is that I checked the paths mentioned (e.g. /usr/local/lib/pam_winbind.so) and they are all present and readable. :?:

Hi

I did a firmware upgrade from 2268 to 2407 (saving configuration first). On reboot I get

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare get_disk_usage() (previously declared in /usr/local/www/index.php:228) in /etc/inc/system.inc on line 824

On checking the console screen no errors or issues are reported and the version is 2407.

sounds like you're running extended gui which is currently broken. viewtopic.php?f=71&t=6405

Yes. I'm running extended gui. There wasn't any warning in the post at the top of this thread. Can the extended gui be disabled from the console menu (shell)?

from the above link: If a system update has been performed already and the index page cannot be displayed due to an error message just replace the page name index.php with extended-gui.php in the browsers address line and hit enter to reach the configuration page and disable Extended Gui.

I came to the forum because I had a problem. There is nothing in the route where you go through Nas4free.org to get the download or the readme.txt file for 4207 which warns of an issue with the extended gui. Its no good putting warnings in the basement behind the sign 'Beware of the tiger'

Many thanks. That worked fine.

I have a huge problem with miniDLNA sucking up all CPU, RAM and swap.
I posted a detailed report in the miniDLNA subforum: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=10621

I don't know if it a release related problem or it's just me, so I put this heads up here as well.
In case someone needs some log, please let me know
PS: the OS is otherwise excellent, thanxs

I don't think this is related to this release.
I don't know cause yet but i'm to be honest not able to reproduce at all.
Could you try a reinstall and a config restore after?

I'll see what I can do. First I want to analyze all my logs again. Then I'll reinstall.
In case the problem persists, I'll install plex, more complex, but also more feature rich.
Thank you zoon01

Hello,

I just upgraded yesterday from 2268 to 2407, embedded (4GB CF card) on my PII 400, 768 MB RAM (+4TB HDD).

NFS works as with 2268 (NFS v4 disabled or enabled)
UPnP (Fuppes) works
DAAP (Firefly) works
RSYNC local works
CIFS/SMB started but not used
DynDNS works
E-mail report works
Web server works
File editor works
QXplorer works
Command line works
UPS works

I didn't see any difference for the WebGUI, the only problem is that the menus don't open up in Konqueror 4.12.5 on Mageia 4 (worked for 2268) but the menus are correctly shown when using Konqueror 4.14.3 on Mageia 5, Firefox do not have this problems...

Keep up the good work!

Ciao @+

Hi, I'm trying to debug a samba disconnect issue I'm seeing on one of my Windows 10 boxes. It started a few weeks ago (I have upgraded Nas4Free twice I think in that time).

Basically, there's a scheduled job in one of my Windows 10 boxes that copies files from the file server to its local drive for processing. I have been getting "Error : System.IO.IOException: An unexpected network error occurred."

This has been working fine for well over a year until now. I was just wondering if the internal NAF4Free Samba parameters have changed recently. For instance, I see a deadtime value has been set under the "performance" section. That could have been there for years but I wanted to confirm. I also noticed at least one Samba version upgrade, so I'll look into those changes as well.

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Updated my Full install with no worries from a Live CD. :D

Info
This is very unfortunate! :(
Indeed, it's not a showstopper for me since I have yet to implement and tell my users about that possibility, but I wish Samba would get their butts in gear about this issue and get it done. It's quite a big one for anyone doing ZFS + Samba.

I can sympathize with having issues, but this is not the right place to post it. This is about this specific release version of NAS4Free. I'd suggest you post in one of the other forums.
