Opinions about ASROCK E3C224D2I Please

Post by vicmarto »

Hello guys.

I'm planing to build a NAS4Free box, and need opinions about the chosen motherboard: ASROCK E3C224D2I, http://www.asrockrack.com/general/produ ... =E3C224D2I Reasons? Price (about $187 ($212)), and respectable specifications.

It would be paired with ECC RAM (16GB), 6x2TB HDD, and something like an i3 4130T http://ark.intel.com/products/77481/Int ... Hz?q=4130T

The CPU is chosen because of ECC support, 35W, and AES-NI support (I plan to use encryption).

Please guys, what do you think? Opinions? Recommendations? Criticizes?

that board works. a friend build his nas using it.

however skylake cpus offer aes from the celeron range.
if you dont use it for anything other than filesharing a celeron will be enough.
Nas4Free 11.1.0.4.4517. Supermicro X10SLL-F, 16gb ECC, i3 4130, IBM M1015 with IT firmware. 4x 3tb WD Red, 4x 2TB Samsung F4, both GEOM AES 256 encrypted.

Thanks b0ssman for your answer. Good to hear the Asrock is working well for your friend.

I'm near finishing the component list for my NAS, and need your opinions/advices:

· MOTHERBOARD: ASRock E3C224D2I http://www.asrockrack.com/general/produ ... =E3C226D2I

· PROCESSOR: Intel i3-4330T http://ark.intel.com/products/77770/Int ... e-3_00-GHz

· HDD: 6x2GB (I already own) --> In ZRAID2

· RAM: 2x Kingston KVR16E11/8 8GB ECC, 240-Pin http://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/KVR16E11_8.pdf

· CASE: Fractal Design NODE 304 http://www.fractal-design.com/home/prod ... -304-white

· POWER: Be Quiet! Straight Power 10 500W CM http://www.bequiet.com/en/powersupply/527

· CPU COOLER: ¿?¿?¿ Suggestions please? (Processor TDP is 35W)

Well, what do you think? Will it work? Something I'm missing?

No, you then are running the server at a less efficient loadlevel of the PSU
Think on such a PSU :

is the ram in approved list of the manufacturer?

for cpu cooler. try the bundled one first.
otherwise noctua makes very quiet cpu coolers.
