Plex unable to connect to internet when running inside of a jail

I have Plex up and running inside of a Jail and it's working great. I can connect to it and watch movies from anywhere in my house on any device.

The issue seems to be that when I'm running openvpn, Plex can no longer connect to the internet to download metadata or artwork.

Any idea where to start in trouble shooting something like this.

I think this is where I got hung up when trying to setup Plex inside a jail - I wasn't able to ping outside networks, etc. I might have resolved it by changing IP address settings or double checking that the router didn't assign it a new address. Might have been a permissions thing as well, not sure, it was about a year ago.

ifconfig
netstat -nr
jexec plexjailname ifconfig
jexec plexjailname netstat -nr

you'll need to run as root and replace plexjailname with the actual name of the jail
