Error: "No usable event timer found"

Post by sanric »

Hi everybody,
I'd loved to setup at home a Nas4Free server on a Gigabyte GA-B75-D3P motherboard with an i3 CPU installed. To achieve this goal I've downloaded the latest stable release, 10.2.0.2.2545 at 64bit in the embedded choice.
After booting u, the system gives me a kernel panic, stating a "No usable event timer found" error.
All the BIOS settings are in default position and I wouldn't know what to change: I've tried with HPET switching and other minor things with no luck at all.
What am I doing wrong? Are there some settings I should care for?
Thank you very much! ;)

[SOLVED] "No usable event timer found"

Post by sanric »

Since I came to a solution I consider useful to share it with everyone.
The problem is simply the Ethernet controller which is not recognized and also it causes a kernel panic throughout the system ; the mobo uses the Realtek 8111DP chip that I've came to know that is not accepted to every versions of FreeBSD known today .
There is also an online procedure to load a suitable driver for this chip but I was not able to complete it .
Absurd , however, that the lack of recognition of a device send the entire system in crisis . Incidentally this does not happen with NAS4Free 9 where the chip is simply not recognized but at least you reach the end of the boot sequence .
