RTL8111/8168B working on 100mbit

Post by korgoth »

Hello guys.

I am using the latest embeded release of Nas4free and i noticed that my network is slow.

Ifconfig says the following:

Code: Select all

re0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500
	options=8389b<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING,VLAN_HWCSUM,WOL_UCAST,WOL_MCAST,WOL_MAGIC,LINKSTATE>
	ether bc:5f:f4:dd:0a:be
	inet 10.0.0.100 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 10.0.0.255
	nd6 options=29<PERFORMNUD,IFDISABLED,AUTO_LINKLOCAL>
	media: Ethernet autoselect (100baseTX <full-duplex>)
	status: active
My NIC is onboard 'RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller' (working on ASRock E350M1 mobo if that matters) and my router is Asus RT-N16 (all ports gigabit).

I have eliminated both router and cable as possible issues by performing tests with my laptop - it connects at gigabit speed with those same cables (3 cables tested) and this same router.

I have also tried setting the interface manually ti 1000baseT with no luck (when i set it up it shows as 1000baseT but then it has no access to the network).

Any ideas? Im kinda desperate here

I really suggest to insert an Intel nic if you have a port free on the system.
When i google on your current nic i see a lot of problems with this type.
Sorry than i can't help on this other than to suggest to replace it.
System specs: XigmaNAS 11.2.0.4 -embedded on Samsung 860 EVO 256GB and Supermicro X10SL7-F w / Bios v3.2, IPMI v.03.86 / CPU E3-1241 v3 @ 3.50GHz - 32GB Crucial DDR3L 1600mhz ECC 1.35v , LSI 2308 on PH20.00.07.00 IT mode, Storage: 5x Western Digital Red (WD30EFRX) raidz

Development system is same system in virtualbox.

I don't know if it's related but my chipset is RTL8111B instead of E (Biostar TA690G)

if you using CAT5E getting gigabit speeed with Freebsd in general is tricky, unless your cable is 1m only.
I recently just getting few meters cat6 cable, and it just works for every gigabit chipsets I had (including Atheros, Realtek, and unknown chipset from TP-Link)

The only board that failed with any cable is my old AM2+ Nvidia LAN (Although it just rebadged Realtek Chipset) GA-M68M-S2P.
I can only obtain gigabit speed with Windows, any linux ubuntu variant, freebsd (N4F, Pfsense) only detect 100mbps.
