ZFS Pool degraded - HHD disappeared
My ZFS pool is complainig about a missing HDD and is therefore degraded.
In fact, the HDD typically connected to AHCI Port 0 is currently not recognized in my NAS4Free box. I get a Long boot-delay and the HDD does not appear in the /dev/-directory
But, i can plug it in my Windows Computer, the drive spins up and is being recognized in Windows 10 (device Manager).
Therefore, I think it is not compeltely dead.
My HP N54L has 4 Slots for fast-Change of the HDDs, maybe the Slot for Port0 is damaged. So, I would like to try another Port.
Suppose, I can plug the HDD in question into another SATA-cable on my NAS4Free box - what happens? Okay one Option is - the HDD is dead and not recognized.
But what if the HDD works on this Port? Is the HDD automatically recognized and the ZPool is online again? Do I have something to do bring the HDD intoo the Zpool again ?

First of all check the SMART values of the drive!
Disks|ZFS|Configuration|Synchronize
Also check Disks|Management|HDD Management
If the drive is okay, it will be automatically identified as member of your ZPool, maybe you should synchronize it atBut what if the HDD works on this Port? Is the HDD automatically recognized and the ZPool is online again? Do I have something to do bring the HDD intoo the Zpool again ?

I am not sure that I understand you right.
For me the last SMART-check looks good. it is from July 1st.
Can I simply plug the HDD in another SATA-port?

Re: ZFS Pool degraded - HHD disappeared
If you plug your drive into another port (e.g. the ODD port or the esata port on there rear it will be given a different device number if you zpool export and zpool import it should recognise the new slot number.
However zpool status above shows the pool to be healthy are you sure you still have a problem?

Re: ZFS Pool degraded - HHD disappeared
Yes, the SMART-report is from an earlier date at end of june.
Today a new HDD was delivered.
After reboot and "clear config and read back from ZFS pool" the new HDD is visible, but stamped as not formatted.
Under HDD format that new HDD is not listed as formattable.
Also with the ZFS tools, I dont find that new HDD for import/attach/replace or something like that.
What is else do I need to do?

Re: ZFS Pool degraded - HHD disappeared
This morning the Problem is gone.
- the new HDD is online
- it is resilvered
- the old HDD disappeared
Just a question: Is there a field for each HDD where I can write some notices, e.g. "in Service since 20.7.2016" ?

Yu can use field "description" to this pourpouse:
http://wiki.nas4free.org/doku.php?id=do ... management
http://wiki.nas4free.org/doku.php?id=do ... management
12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)

Re: ZFS Pool degraded - HHD disappeared
Funny!
I have the latestnas4free-version.
- I can write to the description-field of each HDD
- I do NOT have a row "description" in the HDD - Managemanet - HDD Management view (my NAS4Free is in german)
- Instead, I have a row "Controller-Modell"
I do not find a Feature to configure the displayed rows!

Re: ZFS Pool degraded - HHD disappeared
then you should Update to lastest Version!
v2870 - Pic attached with "Description" / can't see any "Controller-Modell"
btw. use the english Language pls - german Translation is terrible!
- e.g. "Syncthing" translated with "Synchronisation", wtf?? Syncthing is the Name - why it must be translated?

Re: ZFS Pool degraded - HHD disappeared
Try looking at Diagnostics:Information:Disks - that gives you both Description and Controller Model (etc.,etc.) ?
