NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2898 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P5)
The NAS4Free Team is pleased to announce the release of version 10.3.0.3.2898 series.
This build replaces 2895 directly because of its lighttpd ipv6 problem.
Sorry for this inconvenience.
Many work and efforts has been put in to make this a great release.
An new ZFS Tools page could not be included on time as it's still under rewrite, but this will be added within 3 weeks we think.
10.3.0.3 is really a huge step above the 10.2 series, we hope you like it like we do!
http://sourceforge.net/projects/nas4fre ... .0.3.2895/
Everyone can upgrade from NAS4Free version 9.3.0.2.1310 or Higher.
README & CHANGELOG
NAS4Free Upgrade from below 9.3.0.2.1310 is NOT possible!!!
=====================================================
Upgrading NAS4Free "Embedded" or "Full" from any version below 9.3.0.2.1310 by webgui or from
LiveCD/USB is problematic, due a new size of boot partition & partition layout.
Please download and save your NAS4Free config and backup all files from second
partition if you do use the boot disk as your data disk too.
INSTALL FROM SCRATCH IS THAN THE ONLY WAY!
After installation you can restore your config and continue using your server.
Sorry for this inconvenience.
Install from scratch notes:
======================
Download NAS4Free livecd or liveusb and boot from it.
The compressed LiveUSB.img.gz needs to be extracted before you can write it to usb media,
you can use it with Win32DiskImager or any other tool.
Press 9 for the install menu and perform an embedded installation.
** Embedded.img.xz is only for upgrades by WEBGUI, do not extract and write to any media for fast installs! **
It will be problematic as it doesn't make the required partitions you do need!
Upgrade note:
============
You must associate CARP with physical interface explicitly after upgrading to 10.X fom 9.3 series.
You may need modifying your NFS and AFP share settings.
You may need modifying your ftp settings, no longer SSL is supported (only TLS).
You may need modifying your ups settings.
You may need to disable virtualbox-ose on 32-bits install first as this is an 64-bits version feature.
After upgrading, you might need to re-sync ZFS configuration from Disks|ZFS|Configuration|Synchronize.
Send Buffer Size/Receive Buffer Size in CIFS/SMB is changed to 128480 since 9.3.0.2.1375.
** After the upgrade please do make a new backup of your configuration! see: System|Backup/Restore on menu **
Syncthing note:
===============
Syncthing 0.14.x versions is included but is incompatible with 0.13.x and 0.12.x versions from 10.2!
Every user that uses Syncthing service should be aware they will have to upgrade all their syncthing clients too.
[EXTENSION] Extended GUI user note:
==================================
ExtendedGUI extension version 0.5.3 or higher is needed for 10.3.0.3 series.
Below 0.5.3 is not compatible, disable than before upgrade.
Requirements:
============
Embedded: 2GB CF/USB/SSD (NAS4free "Embedded" is Recommended Install)
Full: 4GB HDD/SSD (For developers and some advanced users, Not Recommended!)
Swap less: physical memory 2GB or higher needed.
With swap: physical memory 512MB + swap 512MB (swap 1024MB recommended).

I upgraded from 10.2.0.2.2433 and SSH stopped working.
I have added some extra options in the Services|SSH, ending it all with a "Match User fake" and I get the following error when trying to start sshd:

The same two options are also above my extra options, and if I remove my extra options those two lines are in sshd_config twice where the first two occurrences follow the status on the checkboxes on the Services|SSH page.

Re: NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2898 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P5)
Last night I decided to upgrade my main NAS (was still on 9.3.0.2 v1955)
I downloaded the image file and just to be sure I also downloaded the live CD image in order to perform a clean installation if something went wrong.
Well, nothing went wrong
, the img upgraded just fine and all looks good so far!
Another great job from our devs!

according to https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?sshd_config(5) challengeresponseauthentication option is not allowed within a match block.
The resulting config file created by /etc/rc.d/sshd can be found in /var/etc/ssh/sshd_config.
I hope it helps you to locate the error in your configuration.

The problem is that the sshd script adds double entries for ChallengeResponseAuthentication and AllowTcpForwarding.
If I remove my extra options then the sshd_config looks like this (I have TCP forwarding enabled in the GUI):
Code: Select all
ChallengeResponseAuthentication no
AllowTcpForwarding yes
ChallengeResponseAuthentication no
AllowTcpForwarding noIf I add a commented line in the extra options then the sshd_config looks like this:
Code: Select all
ChallengeResponseAuthentication no
AllowTcpForwarding yes
# My commented line
ChallengeResponseAuthentication no

AllowTcpForwarding yes

ChallengeResponseAuthentication noCode: Select all

Has the sshd script changed since 10.2.0.2?
If I move the lines to outside the "-m "//sshd"" block then I get the correct sshd_config:
Code: Select all
ChallengeResponseAuthentication no
AllowTcpForwarding yes

Re: NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2898 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P5)
Hi all,
This message appeared for first time since I'm running nas4free with 10.3 versions in my server. I'm running dual network interface in LCAP and it looks that trunk stop working random, later is recovered without any aparent reason ... the switch log shows nothing... Netgear GS108T.
Comments will be apreciated, Cheers!

Re: NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2898 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P5)
continuation of : viewtopic.php?f=78&t=11096
and crowi's suggestion : https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?th ... ate.27858/
I upgraded now my PC to Windows 10, the Acronis backup software to the latest version and N4F to 2898.
When I do the Backup (normal compression, 128 bit AES encryption in Acronis running at source) I get an average transfer speed of 50 MB/s , CPU usage on Source and Target is far away from full load. When the backup is finished I do a validation run of the backup and then the read speed of the Backup from the NAs (to compare it with the Backup source) the performance breaks down to around 6-7 MB/s, CPU load is on both CPUs quite low.
Whats wrong here ? BTW I use still SMB1 as I have a Mediaplayer in the Network which only can access the NAS with SMB1, until recently this worked quite well for me, but a validation run lasting around two days for the backup is not reasonable anymore.

Confirmed. Seems (not thoroughly tested) to be triggered when shares are being accessed by clients older than Windows 10. Also:Jack Foobar wrote:Samba/CIFS only enabled server. Seeing this error repeat - didn't know NAS4Free had a printer option.

Samba is just being a miserable PITA with this release. Likely a security update that is making it crap itself.

Re: NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2898 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P5)
FWIW, I'm getting about 85 MB/s with my Pentium 4/SATA150 5400 RPM drives, machine in sig and just a Netgear GS108. I only use SMB/CIFS and MiniDLNA and all seems to work fine. No SSH prob.Jack Foobar wrote:And to add to the awesome of samba in this revision, my Gig network is now topping out at 12 MB/s writes.
Text or ISO File - Write 85 MBs, Read 55 MBs
Client SSD <-> Realtek <-> GS108 <-> Broadcom <-> Nas4Free WD Red
Is AIO and Large Read/Write enabled in Services|CIFS/SMB|Settings?

Re: NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2898 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P5)
Short solution: set Samba logging to normal logging, this should be fixed in samba itself more upstream.sleid wrote:Hello,Jack Foobar wrote:Samba/CIFS only enabled server. Seeing this error repeat - didn't know NAS4Free had a printer option.

Not much we can do, or simply ignore this.

Re: NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2898 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P5)
I have AIO and large r/w enabled, yes. Default S/R buffer of 128480. I also saw 85-114 MB speeds on 9.x and 10.2. This one is giving me real problems though. And it's a embedded system, so I can't really troubleshoot the thing. Just have to hope for the best in the next release.provels wrote:FWIW, I'm getting about 85 MB/s with my Pentium 4/SATA150 5400 RPM drives, machine in sig and just a Netgear GS108. I really hate windows. Much prefer NFS, but those monkeys won't budge. They just keep making samba more complicated.

Yes, it has been enabled since I started using Nas4Free. Are you thinking network/DNS flapping?sleid wrote:Did you enable "Zeroconf/Bonjour to advertise services of this device" ? Both systems have SSD's and Intel server NIC's. I get the feeling I'll have to reload the config. Something in this upgrade path isn't making it happy.

Re: NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2898 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P5)
I think I'm getting closer to figuring out what's up. After going to System/Advanced, and disabling outbound Firmware update check(supposedly only updates at login), my speeds have picked up. I'm wondering if something under the Samba/udp/ip hood is confusing the WAN with the LAN. It's still not great, but it's not 12 MB/s now either. I just think this build is extremely wonky on the samba side of things. I don't see how a outbound check could affect samba though. Hard to diagnose voodoo, so take that anecdotally.
