CIFS Local user share from Mac El Cap.

Post by NeilP »

I have never had issues with this before , so I am wondering if there is an El Captain issue here.

A newly built box, 10.3.0.3 - Pilingitam (revision 2853)

two users on the NAS and Mac, both same name and password.
Using NT1 protocol for access from old XP box in another part of the house.
4 x CIFS sharesAll set browsable (2 x are set to allow Guest access, 2 X are set to NOT allow Guest)
The Non Guest shares also have one of my users in Hosts Deny

I am trying to achieve 4 CIFS shares,
One user has access to ONLY two of the shares

But the Guest access / Host Deny is not working

If I log in as Guest from the Mac:
the NAS appears in the Finder sidebar as a Shared Mac, despite AFP being Off
Each Share appears, in the main body of Finder as "Sharepoint' but with no access....This is despite Guest access being ALLOWED

If I log in as the restricted user ...All shares available, even the ones that has the User in the Hosts Deny box

Am I misunderstanding the 'Hosts Deny " box in the CIFS /SMB share page ?
Can I put user names in there? or is it only for an IP address/ device?

Well it seems to be a 'random' issues...Time taken for caches to refresh etc.

Also seems to be related to the Zeroconf/Bonjoyur service

It seems with ZeroConf enabled, the NAS server appears in Mac Finder Remote Volumes|Network under the Mac saver grouping. and also will appear as a PC at the same time if you use Finder | Go | Connect to server.

Some time the Guest access shares are viewable, some times not, they just appear as " Sharepoint" and an empty folder

There seems to be no valid reason why some share allow you to see the contents and some not.

This is a new build, with all shared folders created at the same time, on the same physical volume in the NAS.
All created with the same default values
On the Mac some, you can see the contents, some you can not . Yet a log off/ logon as the same user will then change which share contents are visible.

I am wondering if it is the New box that is the issue..just the speed of it. It often takes 20-30 seconds some time, from the WebGUi, to just change config, like enable / disable a service

Might re build on different hardware
