SAMBA / CIFS very slow as of latest builds

Post by maarten »

Hello,

Samba / CIFS speed is reduced to approx. 10% of what it used to be since latest builds.
What has changed for the worse?

Am I the only one of have other also noticed a giant drop in speed?

I upgraded from 9.1.0.1 to 10.3.0.3, so I can't compare with previous build, but for me the speed went up, and I now saturate my gigabit network over samba.

1/10 of the speed looks like your NIC is only working on 100 MBIt (Assuming you have a GB NIC.
Go through this list for troubleshooting: http://n4f.siftusystems.com/index.php/2 ... leshooting
NAS 1: Milchkuh: Asrock C2550D4I, Intel Avoton C2550 Quad-Core, 16GB DDR3 ECC, 5x3TB WD Red RaidZ1 +60 GB SSD for ZIL/L2ARC, APC-Back UPS 350 CS, NAS4Free 11.0.0.4.3460 embedded
NAS 2: Backup: HP N54L, 8 GB ECC RAM, 4x4 TB WD Red, RaidZ1, NAS4Free 11.0.0.4.3460 embedded

Normally I have speeds of >12 MB/s (PC connect thru Wi-fi 802.11ac, NAS via Gigabit ethernet), now speeds are on average 400 kb/s (!)... NIC seems just fine, but I'll check again.

It's not the NIC. The only way I could get a faster NIC(Intel Server) or cabling(CAT7) is if I went to fiber, and the speeds still are still crap.

You can test that your actual IP speed is still good with perf3(it's installed on these new builds). Then when samba is used, it's a catastrophe.

Just wait for the next release. Maybe the Sun will shine on our asses and we'll get a functional samba server again.

My Samba is flying, like I said. What are your Samba settings?

Problem solved, restarted my server and SAMBA/CIFS speeds are normal again. Thanks for all support and advice.
