NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2942 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P7)
The NAS4Free Team is pleased to announce the release of version 10.3.0.3.2942 series.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/nas4fre ... .0.3.2942/
Everyone can upgrade from NAS4Free version 9.3.0.2.1310 or Higher.
README & CHANGELOG
NAS4Free Upgrade from below 9.3.0.2.1310 is NOT possible!!!
=====================================================
Upgrading NAS4Free "Embedded" or "Full" from any version below 9.3.0.2.1310 by webgui or from
LiveCD/USB is problematic, due a new size of boot partition & partition layout.
Please download and save your NAS4Free config and backup all files from second
partition if you do use the boot disk as your data disk too.
INSTALL FROM SCRATCH IS THAN THE ONLY WAY!
After installation you can restore your config and continue using your server.
Sorry for this inconvenience.
Install from scratch notes:
======================
Download NAS4Free livecd or liveusb and boot from it.
The compressed LiveUSB.img.gz needs to be extracted before you can write it to usb media,
you can use it with Win32DiskImager or any other tool.
Press 9 for the install menu and perform an embedded installation.
** Embedded.img.xz is only for upgrades by WEBGUI, do not extract and write to any media for fast installs! **
It will be problematic as it doesn't make the required partitions you do need!
Upgrade note:
============
You must associate CARP with physical interface explicitly after upgrading to 10.X fom 9.3 series.
You may need modifying your NFS and AFP share settings.
You may need modifying your ftp settings, no longer SSL is supported (only TLS).
You may need modifying your ups settings.
You may need to disable virtualbox-ose on 32-bits install first as this is an 64-bits version feature.
After upgrading, you might need to re-sync ZFS configuration from Disks|ZFS|Configuration|Synchronize.
Send Buffer Size/Receive Buffer Size in CIFS/SMB is changed to 128480 since 9.3.0.2.1375.
** After the upgrade please do make a new backup of your configuration! see: System|Backup/Restore on menu **
Syncthing note:
===============
Syncthing 0.14.x versions is included but is incompatible with 0.13.x and 0.12.x versions from 10.2!
Every user that uses Syncthing service should be aware they will have to upgrade all their syncthing clients too.
[EXTENSION] Extended GUI user note:
==================================
ExtendedGUI extension version 0.5.3 or higher is needed for 10.3.0.3 series.
Below 0.5.3 is not compatible, disable than before upgrade.
Requirements:
============
Embedded: 2GB CF/USB/SSD (NAS4free "Embedded" is Recommended Install)
Full: 4GB HDD/SSD (For developers and some advanced users, Not Recommended!)
Swap less: physical memory 2GB or higher needed.

Upgraded without problems. Thanks a lot for your work.
With 10.3 still the problem, that transfer rate over AFP is slower.
10.3: 63 MB/s read and 40 MB/s write.
10.2: around 90 MB/s read and 60 MB/s write.
iperf brings the nearly same values in both versions.

Re: NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2942 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P7)
Hi.
I have just updated from NAS4Free 10.2.0.2.2545. My configuration was lost and it took IP 192.168.0.250. I restored the configuration and it works perfect.
Well, most of the screens of the Disks|ZFS| sections have problems with the tables. The borders are not shown and they look a mess. Only the Disks|ZFS|Configuration|Current sections looks ok, as before. I am using Chrome.
Greetings.

I've seen Chrome jack up alot of applications on Linux lately. Perhaps give Firefox or Pale Moon a chance before you lose some real data.

Not sure if it's related here, but I had the Extended GUI active when upgrading (a couple of versions back) and my config was also lost. Disabling it first made the upgrade go without problems. HTH

Re: NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2942 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P7)
Hi.
Running embedded install, x64, on an SS-4200E.
4*1 Tb disks in raid5.
Upgraded successfully but sometimes when I transfer a large file over smb from a windows machine I get:
When it happens the app I use to transfer (total commander) pops a message that it can't write at destination and asks to remove the write protection.
If I retry 2-3 times it copies/transfers the file succesfully.
Any ideas on the possible cause?

Re: NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2942 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P7)
- Upgrade to FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P7.
- Add spinner on menus.
- Rewrite of zpool tools.
- Upgrade lighttpd to 1.4.41.
- Upgrade arcconf to 1_8_21375.
- Upgrade php to 7.0.10.
- Upgrade syncthing to 0.14.5.
- Upgrade libvncserver to 0.9.10.
- Update translations.
- Fix change permission of a dataset fails if related pool doesn't use the default mount point.
- Fix timezone in file manager.
Not sure if this is possible for the 10.3 release, but the samba44-4.4.5_1 pkg would be much appreciated. I'm getting some horrid file transfer rates. And I think it has to do with the installed samba43-4.3.11_1 security release. It kicks lower level smb clients in the balls.

I tried with IE and it worked. Yesterday, I tried with Chrome again and it worked.
Interesting... But it worked.
Thanks!

Greetings.
I took "a risk" with same version (10.2.0.2.2545) by upgrading direct to newest 10.3.0.3.2942, I taked backups offcourse.
and I didnt have any problems, worked with old configurations, all I did I just disabled extended gui before upgrading.
I have 3 disk zfs pool with raidz1

Personally I'm not a fan of the rewritten zpool tools. The pages are considerably slow to load, about 4-5 seconds for me, and having actions split across multiple pages doesn't help. I though the previous tools page was clear, informative and easy to use.

Re: NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2942 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P7)
jema is right, I've upgraded a testNAS and a new step-by-step ZFS pool tools are really slow and confusing (I would say - a show-stopper for upgrading if you are using pool tools). Are there any way to install/switch to old (fast, clear and easy-to-use) tools?
Thanks!

same here.
I prefer the old look.
, split in several steps are a bit confusing.

Re: NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2942 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P7)
I notice that auto config to go HD to standby do not work, but I do not know if is from this release or is more old.
Recently I tryid to configure my ada1 disk (Temp Disk), to go to standby after 10 minutes of inactivity.
I configure this on Disks|Management|HDD Management I'm absulutely sure that disk is not accesed but never go to standBy.
If I write in CLI (Or in ExtendedGUI in a button) Disk go to standby inmediately and is in this state until I access to the data ( by SAMBA for example).
But Never go automaticaly to stanby after 10 minutes of inactivity.
Some one can help?.
Please developers , what is the code that N4F use to try to sleep a Disk after 10 minutes of inactivity?.

Re: NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2942 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P7)
I am having a huge problem. Was on the last version of 10.2.0.2. But since it had problem with my SAS 10k drive I had to low level format. Because of that I decided to install fresh of 10.3.0.3 (latest). But now, any time I am doing anything transferring files or changing the configuration. It just freezes. I already swapped of a known good set of memory, thinking it is that. I simply can't even use the NAS box right now. It just freezes and sometimes it throws out "kstack allocation failed". Its just doing some weird stuff. My other NAS box, using the same version its perfectly fine.

Swap partition is 2048MB and 32GB of RAM UDIMM ECC, I pulled another 16GB of RAM UDIMM ECC from another box and it does the same thing.Lord Crc wrote:Do you have swap enabled? In this NAS box I have 2 LSI controllers each controlling 2 separate zpools. But using it hard (copying files) SMB or iSCSI or NFS from either zpool of the either LSI controllers it just takes a dump
Also, I have 4 ports 1Gb NICs on this BOX 3 are roundrobin for iSCSI and 1 for dedicated SMB/NFS. but I think I can rule out NICs too.

Re: NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2942 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P7)
Shooting in the dark here, but does your System|Advanced|loader.conf settings override "vm.kmem_size" or "vm.kmem_size_max"? If so, to what? What about "vfs.zfs.arc_max"? If it's not set, try setting "vfs.zfs.arc_max" (without quotes of course) to say 16G just for testing.mbze430 wrote:Swap partition is 2048MB and 32GB of RAM UDIMM ECC, I pulled another 16GB of RAM UDIMM ECC from another box and it does the same thing.

Sometimes loading an old confix.xml must cause your simptoms, so one test that you can do, is to do a new fresh install, and configure services fron scratch and do partial test (eg: configure SMB only and test transfer rates, and then continue configuring iSCSI, etc...).

This IS a fresh install.... like I said above. I had problems with my Cheetahs 10K sAS drives... so I had to destroy the zpool, low level format all 8 drives. then install fresh, because I was starting from the beginning anywayraulfg3 wrote:Sometimes loading an old confix.xml must cause your simptoms, so one test that you can do, is to do a new fresh install, and configure services fron scratch and do partial test (eg: configure SMB only and test transfer rates, and then continue configuring iSCSI, etc...).

Re: NAS4Free 10.3.0.3.2942 released (FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-P7)
Kernel Panic whenever Bonjour is enabled.
This started with the 10.3.0.3.2853, and has continued thru every update since.
I cannot upgrade from 10.2.0.2.2545 to 10.3.0.3.2853 because I use AFP and have Zeroconf/Bonjour enabled. I traced the issue to Zeroconf/Bonjour by building a new system from scratch, enabling all my features, and once I save the Enable ZeroConf/Bonjour check box, instant kernel panic.
I do not record all my updates, but I am certain I had a working version of 10.3.0.3 using a Beta, but not sure which one as it is hard to go back. I know this because the version of AFP in 10.2.0.2 is incompatible with the latest MacOS, and it was working fine on 10.3.0.3.somethingBeta.
