I have Windows 10 and I am trying to use the File History backup feature with my NAS4Free shares. It worked at first but in the middle of the first backup, I happened to shut the NAS4Free server down. Now it can't reconnect and I can't set up a new backup. It will not recognize the share. I am having absolutely no other problems between Windows 10 and NAS4Free. I'm keeping my Music there and doing all kinds of work with it.
What could be going wrong, or how could I find out what is going wrong?

Are you referring to Windows offline files feature?

No, I think that is OneDrive and that is MS's cloud file server. I am talking about the backup feature in Windows 7 and beyond that is constantly keeping a backup of files in a connected drive. The drive can be a network drive or a USB drive. In the Control Panel it is found in Update & Security -> Backup where it says "Back up using File History". Under "More Options" choose "See Advanced Setting" and you will see the place where you can choose available drives to choose.kenZ71 wrote:Are you referring to Windows offline files feature?
My NAS4Free drive shows up, but I get an error notice "File History doesn't recognize this drive". If I try to choose the drive again under "Select another drive", I get another error notice, "Your current File History drive is disconnected. Reconnect the drive and try again."

Re: File History feature of Windows 10 cannot reconnect
This seemed to work: Under the option, "Back up to a different drive", I clicked "Stop using drive" and started over selecting my NAS4Free share and everything is working now. But I frequently turn my NAS4Free server off and I would like to think the File History feature does not require this action every time it happens to be cut off. It was cut off this time when it was backing up for the first time and let's hope this made the difference.
