Panic: page fault errors and possible disk corruption

Post by Shotgun84 »

This is my first post, sorry if it's to long, but I thought it would be better to provide as much information as I could.

I'm getting "panic: page fault errors" on boot and need some help on what steps to take. I think my disks are possibly corrupt and I'd like some guidance on how to investigate and recover my data. Also being I'm running such and old version should I upgrade to troubleshoot or stick with the current version?

I've tried basic troubleshooting like using a new USB key (with a config backup) and I get the same error. Also when I run the system with default setting (i.e. no disks or raid details) the system runs fine making me think the issue is with the disks (or config).

Please note my config file refers to ad12, ad13 & ad14 rather then ad04, ad05 & ad06 (which is what the disk are called when I load with default settings) and I'm running a very old version of the software: 0.7 Khasadar (revision 4919).

Here is an image of my disks:

On load (with default or config) the console displays the following messages:
GEOM: ad4: corrupt or invalid GPT detected.
GEOM: ad4: GTP rejected -- may not be recoverable
GEOM: ad5: corrupt or invalid GPT detected.
GEOM: ad5: GTP rejected -- may not be recoverable
My system information is:
Hostname freenas.workgroup
Version 0.7 Khasadar (revision 4919)
Built on Fri Nov 6 18:58:33 UTC 2009
OS Version FreeBSD 7.2-RELEASE-p4 (revision 199506)
Platform i386-embedded on Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5300 @ 2.60GHz
System time Fri Dec 16 07:31:08 EST 2016
Uptime 0 minute(s) 59 second(s)
Last config change Fri Jul 31 9:35:18 EST 2015
CPU frequency 2599MHz
CPU usage 6%
Memory usage 3% of 1906MiB
Load averages 0.77, 0.32, 0.12 [Show process information]
Disk space usage data 98% of 1.8TB Total: 1.8T | Used: 1.6T | Free: 26G
The panic/error message when is crashes/reboots is:
kernel trap 12 with interrupts disabled

Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode
cpuid = 1; apic id = 01
fault virtual address = 0x30
fault code = supervisor read data, page not present
instruction pointer = 0x8:0xffffffff805ae9bf
stack pointer = 0x10:0xfffffffebac48020
frame pointer = 0x10:0xffffff00079b0a50
code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b
= DPL 0, pres 1, log 1, def32 0, gran 1
processor eflags = resume, IOPL = 0
current process = 2056 (fsck_ufs)
trap number = 12
panic: page fault
cpuif = 1
uptime 1m9s
GEOM_RAID5: raid5/PHAT: device is still open. It will be removed on last close.
Cannot dump. No dump device defined.
Automatic reboot in 15 seconds - press a key on the console to abort.
For some quick context I built the server (at the time called FreeNAS) with a three disk RAID5 array back in 2009 to backup important data prior to travelling and working abroad for approx 3.5 years. On return the server worked great and I backed up a heap of data. Two years ago when moving house I essentially put the server into storage due to limited apartment space. I recently decided I want to move my data to cloud storage and I'm now getting errors.

Please help me.

Thanks,
Nick

save your valuable data in a safe place eg: cloud.

1- consider a new hardware 64bit cpable.

if yours is 64 bit capable , do a fresh embeded install on latest N4F and configure all from scratch, DO NOT import old config.

use button in webGUI "Clear config & import disk" and "clear config and import software RAID Disk". to import your pool.
12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)

Thanks for the response raulfg3. I've providde my hardware details below and know the CPU is 64 bit so I assume the motherboard and ram would be too... I'll download and install the latest N4F and give it a go!

Hardware Details
MB: Gigabyte G41M-ES2L F6
CPU: Intel E5300
RAM: 2x 1GB DDR800

Is there a guide for adding an existing RAID5 array so I don't accidentally destroy the data?

Thanks,
Nick
