Iissues with LSI-2008 possible due to driver/firmware version mismatch?

Post by fallen2109 »

In the last couple of days I am experiencing a lot of CAM errors on the HDDs that are part of my ZFS Raidz1 array.
Previously on Nas4Free - I have upgraded 2-3 weeks ago. There were no errors with my ZFS drives under v 10.*

The firmware version of the controller is 20.x.x. something while the Nas4Free (BSD) driver reports version 21.x.x
something. Aren't these version supposed to be equal and if yes - can someone point me out to a newer firmware
for my LSI-2008 (21.x.x.x). Manufacturer website does not offer anything above 20.x.x.x. Or shall I downgrade the
driver somehow? Or move back to NAS v10.x.x ? But now that I have upgraded my ZFS pool with the latest features
- is this even possible?

Your advice will be highly appreciated. Thank you

Hello,

Im think it would be helpful, if you would provide us information about from which version to which version you upgraded to.
In addition it is important to know which controller do you use excatly with which kind of Firmware and which version thereof.

Kind regards
apollo

I have upgraded NAS4Free full from the last v10.3.0.3.3105 to v11.0.0.4.3305 (currently I am on v11.0.0.4.3330). My controller is Avago LSI-2008 and during boot I see that the BIOS is 20.0.0.4 while the driver is 21.0.0.? something. The firmware is the IT (non-RAID) version as recommended in other posts. I specifically chose for this controller as it is highly recommended by all NAS4Free users.

If you tell me what commands to run - I can provide any information about my controller.

I had the same problem. You can resolve the issue by resetting to factory defaults and rebuilding your configuration. A bit frustrating but not the end of the world.

Can you tell me what exactly did you reset to factory - NAS4Free or the LSI controller?

Thanks

RESOLVED! My hot plug HDD cage (for 5 drives) was not having sufficient power. One of the cheep Chinese cr*p power split cables was the root cause for all of this ! Blow my whole weekend away. Now I switched to direct power in all 3 sockets of the hot spare case and everything seems to be running as if there were never problems. Jesus - so frustrating!
