[SOLVED] pool and vdev (raidz1) neither accessible nor deletable

Post by Loki72 »

Hi Experts,

creating a new pool I ran into an issue under NAS4Free 11.0.0.4 - Sayyadina (revision 4195).

I have 3 HDs, formatted them as ZFS (two of them formerly were used with UFS, one is brand new).
Next, I created a vdev out of the 3 (raidz1).
Then I created a pool.
The pool was unaccessible, so I tried to delete it.

But the problem persists.
The pool is still visible in the GUI.
Under ZFS -> Pools -> management the system says 'unknown' in all columns, the check box in front of the line does not respond, so I can't mark it for deletion.

The same applies to the corresponding vdev.

In the log I can find the following lines:

1. root: zpool destroy 'pool2'
2. root: cannot open 'pool2': no such pool

How can I get rid of the faulty pool, reformat the HDs and start over again?

Thanks for your time, I appreciate it!

edit: yes, I read viewtopic.php?f=66&t=12346 but would need more information.

I would try and re sink the gui. Disks > ZFS > Configuration > Synchronize check all the boxes at the bottom.
if that does not work maybe try to remove the disks. Disks > Management > HDD Management and then instead if importing them add them with the "+"
if for some reason you still are experiencing issues you could try and wipe the disks. https://www.nas4free.org/wiki/faq/0129

Thank you tony1.

I was absent some days, so I found your reply only today.
I tried several things a couple of days ago.
One of them was synchronizing, like you suggested.

Eventually I got my disks back so I was finally able to reformat them.

As I found out while creating a new pool it seems to be necessary to reboot the system between the steps (formatting, vdev crreation, pool creation, dataset creation). If I don't reboot, the system will end up in a faulty state as described in my first post. I'm not sure which of those reboots did the trick,
Anyways, the system is up and running now.

Thank you again for your support.
