Hello, the server maybe tight on RAM, please reboot and re-try firmware upgrade again, if same error occurs please provide the server full system specs for better support.

The server is a HP Proliant Microserver GEN8 4GB ram. At the moment I'm far from office but I'll try your suggestion. BTW Where I can find a relevant log to the above error ?JoseMR wrote: ↑02 Sep 2017 12:32scardig wrote: ↑02 Sep 2017 12:25Hello,

Hello, relevant logs can be accessed from WebGUI Diagnostics > Log, or simply SSH into server at "/var/log" location, you will lost recent logs after reboot if embedded though.

Re: NAS4Free 11.1.0.4.4551 released (FreeBSD 11.1-RELEASE-P1)
I upgraded from 11.0.0.4.4490 to 11.1.0.4.4551 and it appears to have broken additional group memberships for accounts.
I have the following accounts: myself, user, backup. Then the following groups: users, backup. Myself has primary group of users with backup as additional group. The backup user is set to primary group backup with additional group as users. The reason is I have some files only accessible by myself, but I still wanted backed up so the backup account needs access, but I have some files I want everybody to have access that need to be backed up as well.
The dataset with the problem is set to myself:users so it was accessible by all account. It was working before I upgraded, but right after upgrading it can't be accessed by the backup account anymore. I chown the dataset to myself:backup and it started working so I know it's the additional group membership that's the problem.

@scardig:
The embedded GUI upgrade never worked for me on HP Micro Gen8, I always upgrade via ILO/virtual media boot. Surprised you are even getting a failure message, here it just gets stuck at enable_upgrade() step of /etc/rc.firmware, without doing anything and renders the GUI inaccessible.

HP Gen8 is quit populair with some issues in general if i recall correct, make sure it's mbr formatted install.
Also embedded needs high quality usb sticks to avoid flash problems.
I have not seen flash issues on my systems and vm's yet so i can not reproduce errors you see.

Downgraded to 11.1.0.4.4528 and the additional groups are working, so it's not FreeBSD 11.1, just something between 4528 and 4551.

I am with HP MS Gen8 too. The last 6 (six) upgrades of my embedded installation failed and I reported it in several postings here. I am using USB sticks that have been reported here to be good - SanDisk Cruzer Fit 16 GB. But they are GPT formatted. Do you thing that if they are MBR formatted it will solve my problems?zoon01 wrote: ↑03 Sep 2017 21:42HP Gen8 is quit populair with some issues in general if i recall correct, make sure it's mbr formatted install.

No i'm not sure but worth a try, but i know some could not boot at all if not mbr installed.netware5 wrote: ↑03 Sep 2017 22:38I am with HP MS Gen8 too. No idea what's going on there, absolutely nothing useful logged. What's this code exactly supposed to help with?
Code: Select all
# Redirect I/O to console.
# Prevent console redirect if no physical video adapter found.
if /usr/sbin/pciconf -l | grep -qw "vgapci[0-9]"; then
exec </dev/console >/dev/console 2>/dev/console
fi
Perhaps it doesn't do any good with my IPMI serial console setup?
P.S. The USB stick definitely is not GPT.

Hi, I did proposed that code because some users here install NAS4Free on NON server hardware then Remove they Video card affecting further GUI upgrades, if you have a standard motherboard simply ignore this code, it will be processed upon detection, nothing wrong with it, the other added code prevent for MD duplication though.
Also USB reliability sucks by inheritance, perhaps getting a good Hard Drive, SSD for best reliability is the best bet under production environments.
EDITED: My apologies for previous arrogance.

Re: NAS4Free 11.1.0.4.4551 released (FreeBSD 11.1-RELEASE-P1)
This is not exactly viable advise with Gen8, it won't boot from it (using the SATA5 intended for CD/DVD) unless you put a bootloader on USB.JoseMR wrote: USB sucks no matter who make the flash drives, get a good Hard Drive, SSD if you need reliability.
Other than that, I seriously fail to see how's USB even involved here - the GUI upgrade never actually makes it to even trying to touch anything on the USB. When you run `ps auxw`, it never gets beyond the /etc/rc.firmware's enable_upgrade() step where it sits until you kill the process. After killing it, you usually get the WebGUI back.

Re: NAS4Free 11.1.0.4.4551 released (FreeBSD 11.1-RELEASE-P1)
My upgrade failed, think the install corrupted on my flash drive.
Tried to install viw USB Install, that failed.
Formatted the flash drive on another machine, tried the USB install again and everything back to normal.
Looks nice, thanks for all the continued efforts guys, my N4F system provides the backbone of my home tech adventure.
